Surprise, surprise… the quarterback of the Alabama Crimson Tide is a fan of country music.
Once again, Alabama finds themselves in the College Football Playoff (with a lot of people arguing that they shouldn’t have made it). The Crimson Tide just has a knack for sneaking in, and the No. 9 seeded team now has a tough matchup against the No. 8 seeded Oklahoma Sooners on Friday, December 19.
In other words, it’s game week, and a lot of eyes are on Alabama’s senior quarterback Ty Simpson. The signal-caller is looking to have a good showing in the postseason, and a couple of days prior to the big showdown, Simpson revealed some of the ways he’s preparing and staying cool and collected ahead of the CFP.
During his Monday press conference, he revealed that one of the tools he uses to stay grounded is a famous 90s sitcom that you may have heard of:
“A game like this, whether it’s a pre-game meal or in the hotel room, I’ll watch ‘Seinfeld.’ It gets me in a happy mood. You know, sitcom, stupid funny.”
Nothing wrong with taking in the adventures of Jerry, George, Kramer and Elaine to get in the right headspace.
But when it comes to Simpson’s pre-game routine, he told the media that there’s one genre of music that reigns supreme. If you see the senior with headphones on prior to a game, he’s probably listening to country music. Ty says that the music takes him “home,” and gets him ready to go out on the gridiron.
And he’s got a few favorites that he particularly favors:
“I listen to country music every time before a game. So, whether it’s Morgan Wallen, Riley Green, Luke Combs, it gets me in the mode. I feel back at home.”
Considering his love for country music and a 90’s sitcom, I’m surprised that Simpson doesn’t mix some 90s country music artists into his pregame playlist. Nothing wrong with Wallen and Green and Combs, but how about some Alan Jackson? Or mixing in some Brooks & Dunn?
A little “Neon Moon” could go a long way getting ready for a football game.
Alabama’s quarterback is hoping that all of the Seinfeld watching and country music listening will have him ready to go, and set he and his team up to chase down a national championship. During the press conference, Simpson said that the Crimson Tide has something to prove (as weird as that might sound), and that he think the team’s preparation will allow for a deep run:
“We know what happened last year, we know what happened this year, but we can’t worry about that. We’ve got to do what we do, control what we can control, and guess what? We can control our attitude, how we play and how we prepare. So we’re going to prepare like we’ve never won and perform like we’ve never lost.”
And one of the ways that Ty Simpson will be preparing is cueing up some of his favorite country music songs. Ty, if you are reading this, add this one to your playlist:
