Texas Songwriter Goes Viral With Hilarious Tune About Falling For A Game Warden’s Decoy Trap

Don Wade

A song many hunters and fishermen can relate to.

We are in the thick of deer season, and while most folks know that you have to have all your proper licensing before hitting the stand, some folks do not follow the rules before heading into the woods, leading them to get a visit from the game warden.

While most folks do not like game wardens because it usually leads to a fine, they are there to ensure that all animals are hunted and fished legally, protecting wildlife. A game warden is a vital member of wildlife protection, enforcing laws related to hunting and fishing, verifying the validity of hunting and fishing licenses, and investigating violations such as illegal hunting or poaching.

And while most folks do not like run-ins with game wardens when they are not following these laws, game wardens get a bad rap too for over-patrolling, especially on private land, and have a reputation for being aggressive and strict in enforcing everything “by the book.” I’ve heard stories over the years of some people not even wanting to hunt on their land because they feel like they are under constant surveillance.

While not every game warden fits this list of characteristics, their reputation has led one Texas man to go viral with a hilarious original country ditty highlighting a run-in with a local game warden (the truth of which is unclear).

Don Wade, a Texas native from Sunset, has gone viral on social media many times for his original tunes highlighting some of life’s most mundane activities, like “Shopping In Walmart,” which has captivated fans with his honest yet witty storytelling. One of his most recent viral hits is the “Game Warden Song.”

“Met the game warden last night
Well, it was 2 AM when they saw my spotlight
50,000 candlepower, man, that sucker was pretty bright
I met them game wardens last night

Now my ears were still ringing
My arm was a little sore,
My rifle is at the window
Of my driver’s side door
And there was empty brass
On my seat and on the floor
When I met them game wardens last night”

Wade’s ditty continues by noting that he shot the biggest buck he’d ever seen, but he was not aware it belonged to the law. It ended up being a dummy, and he was trapped into learning wrong from right, leaving with a big ticket.

Honestly, the tune is catchy as hell, and I’ve found myself humming it a time or two since stumbling upon this video.

“Awesome, I love it.”

“You have to record and release this.”

“This song’s going platinum.”

“That’s a good one!!”

“Gotta get ‘er done somehow.”

“I love your songs !! Do they tell your life stories?????”
