The welcome that all veterans deserve, every single day of the year.
If you ask me, our military veterans deserve to be treated like royalty. The brave men and women that fight to protect this country are true, every day heroes. We treat them as such when they are deployed, but we could do a better job of celebrating and lifting them up when they return home from service.
High Point University does a great job of picking up that slack.
Every year, High Point University – which is not a military academy, but does offer great opportunities for students to receive military training – puts on an event that they call their Annual Veterans Day Celebration. This year, the event was held today (Friday, November 7, 2025) at 8:00 a.m. in the Nido and Mariana Qubein Arena and Conference Center.
HPU’s president, Nido Qubein, and the entire family at the university invite local veterans to the event in order to commemorate their sacrifice and service to the United States of America. The proceedings, which takes place a couple of days prior to Veteran’s Day (November 11), included a Patriotic Salute, a breakfast for military heroes, featured a guest speaker and a special performance.
The COO of Samaritan’s Purse, Edward Graham, was the guest speaker at the event. And the special performance? That was put on by none other than Lee Greenwood – the artist behind the patriotic hit “God Bless The U.S.A.” While the event itself is worthy of praise, this video of High Point University welcoming the veterans this morning deserves to be highlighted on its own.
The men’s lacrosse team at HPU were up bright and early to give the veterans arriving to the event a worthy greeting:
“When the veterans start arriving. Good morning from High Point University’s 15th Annual Veterans Day Celebration! This morning we’re welcoming more than 2,500 veterans and their families members to the Qubein Arena for an event honoring their service to our great nation.”
Now that right there is enough to bring a tear to your eye.
That’s such a small and easily-carried-out act of kindness by High Point University, yet it clearly had a huge impact on the veterans that were stepping off the bus. A simple “thank you for your service” can go a long way… and full-blown, pep-rally-energy doesn’t hurt either. These veterans felt like celebrities at they arrived at High Point University.
And that’s how they should feel – and be treated – each and every day.
Here’s another look at the warm, patriotic welcome that veterans were met with when they stepped onto the campus of High Point University this morning. If that first video didn’t get the waterworks going… this one sure will:
Shoutout to High Point University for putting on the annual event honoring veterans, and a round of applause for the men’s lacrosse team for going the extra mile to really make these heroes feel special. These men and women gave a lot to our great country, and it’s heartwarming to see others give back to them.
