Still coming off the high of Halloween weekend.

While many celebrities went all out for Halloween this year, like Megan Moroney delivering a dead-on costume of Dolly Parton’s famed Playboy costume. Don’t believe us? See for yourself.

However, Billy Strings should not be overlooked when it comes to dressing up or playing a Halloween show. William Lee Apostol (A.K.A. Billy Strings) and his band love to schedule an October 31 show, and they typically do something that’s referred to as “Billyween.” That usually entails some theme for all of their costumes, and this year around, it was “Meet Me at The Crypt.”

Billy and the band all went as classic Universal monsters:

-Billy Strings as The Wolf Man”
-Alex Hargreaves as The Mummy
-Jarrod Walker as Frankenstein
-Royal Masat as Dracula
-Billy Failing as the Bride of Frankenstein

Pretty epic, right? The night was filled with incredible covers and a long list of jams from Billy’s catalog. Some of the covers that Billy Strings laid down included a stellar rendition of Pearl Jam’s “Alive.”

However, another cover Billy Strings delivered that night deserves further discussion: a bluegrass rendition of Tyler Childers’ “Bitin’ List.” This video is just what you need to see to cure your post-Halloweekend blues.

Tyler Childers‘ “Bitin’ List” from his most recent studio project, Snipe Hunter, has become a fan favorite from the tracklist. The hater anthem is the perfect song to scream at the top of your lungs when someone p***es you off, and it features one of the best lines in country music in the chorus:

“And if there ever come a time I got rabiesYou’re high on my bitin’ list”

“Bitin’ List” gained even more traction when Tyler Childers took it on the road, as it is a song in his setlist where he unleashes his unhinged yet hilarious concert monologues.

During “Billyween,” Strings decided to put a bluegrass spin on Childers’ tune, and it was an instant hit among the crowd. While the performance might have lacked the unhinged, unpredictable opening words from Childers, Billy Strings added his own unpredictable twist and remained on a rising platform throughout the song. Why was he up there? Don’t know, but he was closer to the moon hanging on the stage, which feels like he was evolving into this final werewolf form, ready to bite someone on his “Bitin’ List” under the full moon.

Vocally, Billy Strings blew this performance out of the park. Once his band kicked in, the integrity of the original recording is very much present, but they put their own twist on it with banjo and mandolin licks that turn the song into a bluegrass hate anthem — and it works incredibly well.

As the song concludes, Billy Strings’ raised platform lowers back down to the stage, ending the stellar performance. This is the crossover we needed to see.
