A girl after my own heart…
Miranda Lambert is the guest on Joe Rogan’s extremely popular Joe Rogan Experience podcast this week, where they covered a wide array of topics during their almost two and a half hour conversation, ranging from her golf journey, getting involved in mounted shooting, missing the road during the pandemic, and more.
But possibly the funniest part is when they got to talking about what they feed their dogs, and Miranda explained that she had been making their food for a while, but eventually it became too much to keep up with, and she opted for a healthier, more expensive option.
Rogan likened the unhealthy dog food it to a human being stranded in a cabin and being able to survive on a bag of Cheetos… sure, they taste great, but they’re certainly not the healthiest option and it’s not good long-term, either.
Miranda agreed, and she brought up the fact that people love to ask her about her tour rider, which is basically just a list every artist or performer gives to a venue when they’re there so they can ensure they have all of the food and drink options they’ll need during the time of their concert.
Miranda’s is surprisingly simple, as she explained all she needs is some “Cheetos and Tito’s”:
“People are always like, ‘What’s on your rider?’ I’m like, ‘Cheetos and Tito’s.’ That’s kind of all I need.”
Rogan laughed pretty hard as he asked if she was serious, to which she added they might have a cheese tray or something too, but kept it pretty light and easy.
He also talked about why he no longer puts alcohol on his when Miranda asked about his rider:
“That’s it? That’s your rider? Cheetos and Tito’s? That’s hilarious. Some people have wacky riders… I have a meat tray. When I was drinking, we would definitely have some whiskey on there, and maybe a bottle of wine. But I don’t really drink anymore. I wasn’t an alcoholic, so it’s not like I can’t drink, I had a glass of wine with dinner the other night.
But it’s not, I don’t drink anymore. I would go to my comedy club with my friends, or I would go on the road, I would have a couple glasses of this and a couple glasses of that, and a margarita at dinner, and then the next day I’d feel like s***. And it wasn’t ever like I couldn’t stop, and one day I was like, I think I’m just gonna stop for a while and see how I feel.
And I felt so much better. So much better, because I was drinking, like two or three nights a week. Sometimes four, go out on a date with my wife have a couple of drinks, I’d go to the comedy club and have a couple of drinks, maybe I’d have a drink or two with someone in the studio.”
Miranda responded by saying how much drinking is a part of their business, and how as entertainers, they’re expected to “bring the party,” and it’s hard to do that sometimes when you’re not partying too, in a sense.
Of course, we all now how much alcohol is celebrated in country music specifically, and for many that’s totally fine, but there are plenty of artists who wind up being sober altogether, and miranda admitted that she’s seen how it can “spiral” very easily for some:
“I feel like that’s showbiz. That’s part of it, that’s part of our culture. We have to bring the party, too, that’s the other thing. It’s like, how am I supposed to bring the party if I’m not parting with you, you know?
Especially in the honky tonk days, I came up in beer joints. I’m talking about dive bars. You just start getting in it with people, and then you’re on your day off, and you’re like, oh, we’re gong to have a nice date…it kind of spirals. But I love it. I love red wine, it’s my favorite thing.”
She’s a girl after my own heart, truly…
Rogan explained that he doesn’t think he’ll give up alcohol completely, and says he still drinks on occasion, but not nearly as much as he used to for health reasons:
“I don’t hate drinking, I just hate how I feel the next day.”
Miranda did say that she lives by the “two martini” rule, saying she doesn’t know how anyone can do more than that without being seriously unwell…
It’s a great conversation, and Miranda comes across as super down-to-Earth, just a Texas gal who loves her vodka and a little junk food after a show… I think we would really be best friends.
