It hasn’t exactly been Zach Bryan’s day, week, or month (can’t go as far to say year to stretch out the Friends reference).
The country music star has been in the news a lot as of late thanks to his unreleased song “Bad News.” Bryan shared a snippet of the new track one week ago, and the buzz around the song shot to the stratosphere. The first verse doesn’t necessarily touch on anything too political, though it does throw out a line about the police being “cocky mother*******,” which could be a reference to Bryan’s personal run in with the authorities in September of 2023, or just could be a shot at law enforcement in general:
“Didn’t wake up dead or in jail
Some out of town boys been giving us hell
I got some bad news
I woke up missing you
My friends are all degenerates but they’re all I got
The generational story of dropping the plot
I heard the cops came
Cocky mother******* ain’t they?”
Once the song gets to its second verse, it dives into the political side of things. Right off the bat, Bryan took aim at the ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement). And towards the end of the verse, the country star reveals that the “Bad News” he’s singing about is the “fading of the red, white and blue.” He also seems to lament the fact that Bruce Springsteen, who famously rants about Donald Trump at every concert, has lost some fans recently:
“And ICE is gonna come, bust down your door
Try to build a house no one builds no more
But I got a telephone
Kids are all scared and all alone
The Boss stopped bumping, the rock stopped rolling
The middle fingers rising and it won’t stop showing
I got some bad news
The fading of the red, white and blue”
That caused quite the uproar, garnering a number of responses and even trolls from the Department of Homeland Security. Zach responded earlier this week with a message saying that he’s served this country and “loves this country,” and that when the full song is released, people will realize that it hits both sides of the aisle. The White House also chimed in with some comments… imagine the United States government clapping back at a snippet of your song… what strange times.
And in the midst of all that happening, Bryan’s favorite NFL team – the Philadelphia Eagles – have gone 0-2. They lost to the Denver Broncos last Sunday, and then we’re upset by the New York Giants in the most recent edition of Thursday Night Football. So just to clarify, Zach has made enemies with the United States government and had to suffer through two tough losses all in a matter of a week.
That’s the definition of down in the dumps, if I’ve ever seen it.
The “I Remember Everything” singer took to his Instagram story (as he often does) to share that people have been trash talking him as the Eagles have gone winless in the past two weeks. Zach is asking that people lay off of him, since he’s been going through it as of late:
“Can everyone stop chirping me about the Birds/Giants loss? I’m still not over Denver, and I got rick-rolled by the US government this week.”

Yeah, definitely not the best seven days that Zach Bryan has ever had. When you get “rick rolled” by the U.S. Government, it’s just not your week.
Hopefully the Birds will get back on tracks for Zach’s sake, and it’d probably be in his best interest to release “Bad News” sooner rather than later. Just because one of two things will happen. Either a) it’ll clear everything up, and people will realize that the country star was going after both sides with the new track or b) it’ll just add to the tough run that he’s been on and releasing it will get the controversy over with.
Oh, and while you are here, you should probably check out the latest on what Donald Trump and the White House had to say about Zach Bryan’s new song:
Sorry!
Since Zach Bryan mentioned being “Rick Rolled” by the U.S. Government, I had no other choice but to do it. Always keep your head on a swivel for Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up.”
