Swifties Accuse Taylor Swift Of Going “MAGA” On New Album, ‘The Life Of A Showgirl’

Definitely wasn’t expecting that reaction from Swifties.

Taylor Swift has the most hardcore fanbase of any artist on the planet, so it was a little surprising to see critical comments from her fanbase when she dropped her latest album, The Life Of A Showgirl, last Friday.

The pop superstar first announced the album back in August, during an appearance on her now-fiancé’s podcast, New Heights, where she revealed that she had reunited with producers Max Martin and Shellback, and recorded the album in Sweden in between shows on her Eras Tour:

“It felt like catching lightning in a bottle, honestly. We hadn’t worked together in like seven or eight years. … There’s something about these guys. They’re just geniuses in different avenues, in different ways.”

And she also said fans could expect a more upbeat album than her last few releases:

“This album is about everything that was going on behind the scenes in my inner life during this tour, which was so exuberant and electric and vibrant…

I would say it’s everything that was going on behind the curtain… My main goals were melodies that were so infectious that you’re almost angry at it, and lyrics that are just as vivid but crisp and focused and completely intentional.

I feel like we really came together in a really beautiful way.”

Swift called the album one of the best she’s ever made – but from the reactions so far, it sounds like a lot of Swifties would have to disagree.

Of course there have been a lot of Swifties who criticized the lyrics on the album, even accusing Swift of “dumbing down” her songwriting for Kelce. But as Swift’s fanbase, who are notorious for reading way too much into pretty much everything she does, dug deeper and deeper into the album, it seems they’ve picked up on another message from their idol: She’s gone MAGA.

Yes, Taylor Swift, who endorsed Kamala Harris and Joe Biden, and whom President Donald Trump has publicly proclaimed to “hate” on more than one occasion, is apparently now a right-wing tradwife influencer.

It’s as ridiculous as it sounds.

In fact it’s so ridiculous that I couldn’t help myself and had to dig a little deeper to figure out exactly what was behind this new conspiracy theory. And from what I can gather, it really comes down to a couple of songs.

One of those is “CANCELLED!” where Taylor proclaims that she “likes her friends canceled” while pushing back against cancel culture.

“Good thing I like my friends cancelled
I like ’em cloaked in Gucci and in scandal
Like my whiskey sour, and poison thorny flowers
Welcome to my underworld where it gets quite dark
At least you know exactly who your friends are
They’re the ones with matching scars”

Swifties aren’t happy with Taylor for being friends with Brittany Mahomes, wife of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, because she’s a Trump supporter. And they believe that this song is a subtle message that she doesn’t care whether Brittany is “canceled.”

Then there’s “Wi$h Li$t,” which finds Taylor seemingly reflecting on her hope for a future with Kelce:

“I just want you, uh
Have a couple kids, got the whole block lookin’ like you
We tell the world to leave us the f–k alone
And they do, wow
Got me dreamin’ ’bout a driveway with a basketball hoop
Boss up, settle down, got a wish (wish) list (list)
I just want you”

Apparently the line “got the whole block lookin’ like you” is white supremacist code for “I want to live in a white neighborhood,” while the idea of getting married and having children is a dog whistle to “MAGA” ideals.

Apparently wanting to start a family is right-wing these days.

Then there’s the most ridiculous theory, which surrounds the fan-favorite song from the album, “Opalite.”

First, let’s take a look at the lyrics:

“You were dancing through the lightning strikes
Sleepless in the onyx night
But now the sky is opalite
Oh oh oh oh, oh my Lord
Never made no one like you before
You had to make your own sunshine
But now the sky is opalite”

So what’s MAGA about that? Well apparently, it’s homophobic because the sky is “opalite,” there’s no more rainbows, meaning she’s against gay rights.

No, really.

And it’s also been deemed racist for seemingly taking shots at Kelce’s ex, Kayla Nicole, and declaring that Swift is better than her because she’s white.

I can’t make this up, I’m just telling you what they said.

The whole thing is utterly ridiculous. Falling in love, getting married and having kids isn’t some “right wing” agenda, and Taylor Swift is definitely not “MAGA.” I mean, even Kelce has received criticism from the right for his Pfizer commercials during the COVID pandemic.

But then again, these are the kind of unhinged conspiracy theories I expect from Swifties who read way too much into anything and everything she does.

#greenscreenvideo yes Taylor’s new album #lifeofashowgirl is conservative. It’s dog whistles to MAGA talking points, it’s tone deafness and it’s ideals are clearly in line with those politics
