Jerry Jones Explains The Middle-Finger Scene He Improvised That Was Cut From His Stellar ‘Landman’ Cameo

I might have to agree with Jerry Jones on this one… they shouldn’t have cut his improvised line out of Landman.

Fans of Taylor Sheridan’s hit TV show were stunned to see Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager, Jerry Jones, make a cameo appearance in season one’s penultimate (9th) episode. Titled “WolfCamp,” the episode mostly focused on Jon Hamm’s character, M-Tex CEO Monty, dealing with heart issues in the hospital. Monty ended up receiving a surprising visit (at least surprising for viewers) from Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, who played himself in the show.

And man, oh man did he lay down an impressive monologue:

“I made my mind up a long time ago that I was going to work with my kids. And they’re involved in everything. When I got the Cowboys, I got it so we could all work together. I thought I was doing it for them, but the one that got the most out of it was me.

You’re gonna be sitting here sometime in the future, laying here sometime in the future, and this room is gonna be full of your business associates, and the people you’ve worked with all your life. And more than likely, your children and family are gonna be there because they’re your children and your family.

But you could have them there because they’re the people you spent your life with… not just Thanksgiving and Christmas. I’m pretty proud of them Cowboys, I’m pretty proud of the stuff we’ve done in oil and gas. It pales in comparison to how proud I am to have lived my life working with my kids.”

If only Jerry Jones could manage a football team as well as he could act.

And the owner of the Cowboys wasn’t really acting there. Obviously, those things that Jerry Jones spoke about in his monologue are true in real life… so he basically played himself and shared an anecdote from his real life experience. Then he also tried to crack a joke, but it evidently didn’t make the cut.

Because Jerry Jones is currently in a bit of trouble for flipping off some New York Jets fans, a video resurfaced of him in training camp nonchalantly flipping the bird during a press conference. It was actually in Jerry’s time with the media that he spoke about a scene that he improvised during his Landman monologue, and how he was upset that it didn’t make it into the show:

“What’s-his-name was laying up there in bed. I said, ‘The good news is that they say you are gonna live. So don’t make me have to come up here and visit with my rubber glove and get you out of that bed.’ Now they took that out, and I thought it was the best scene in the whole thing.”

Did Jerry really call Jon Hamm “what’s-his-name?” He can’t remember the name of the star from Mad Men?

As you can see though, Jerry likes to utilize that middle finger any chance he gets. And though I wish the folks over at Landman would have kept that joke in, I can see why they didn’t. It probably would have undercut what was truly a beautiful, moving moment in the show.

But as we’ve seen in real life, Jerry Jones loves to flip the bird whenever he can. He just recently did it as he watched his Dallas Cowboys beat the New York Jets this past Sunday:

Classic Jerry… he seems like the type of guy who would look down on others and send a nasty gesture their way.

After the video surfaced online, he tried to say in an interview that he meant to do a thumbs up to the fans below him, and it accidentally came out as a middle finger (sure, Jerry… because that’s believable). The NFL wasn’t buying it, and actually hit the Dallas Cowboys owner and GM with a hefty, $250,000 fine:

That’s an expensive “thumbs up that accidentally turned into a middle finger.” Guess Jerry Jones needs to keep his middle finger holstered, or at least save it for his acting gigs…
