An update on their arrested roommates.

Last weekend, two Texas Tech students were left in handcuffs after deciding to rush the field. The Red Raiders were playing Oregon State, but the game was halted Saturday afternoon after a 45-minute weather delay at Jones AT&T Stadium. The video of the two men getting charged on the field took off on social media, but that was just the start of their rise to fame.

The arrested men grew more popular when their two friends and roommates decided to sit on the couch and pen a tune about the unfortunate incident as they waited for their friends to get out of jail. The two Texas Tech students, Slade and Cade, went viral for their original tune, “Rush The Jones,” which has garnered almost a million views on the video since its release.

“This is a song we wrote in the last hour and a half about our roommates getting arrested after trying to rush the Jones.”

They say before firing up an acoustic melody. The men detailed the whole situation in a play-by-play talking style of lyrical delivery similar to the Johnny Cash classic, “A Boy Named Sue.”

The tune goes a little like this:

“Well, it was a rain delay on a Saturday
And Tech was playing Oregon State
And two ole boys thought they’d give it a run
Well, they jumped down from their stadium seats
And felt the turf beneath their feet
Flip flops moving at 100 miles an hour
Well, they got to that old double T
Looked up and saw security…”

After sharing their tune, hilariously, other Texas Tech fans are taking the tune and putting it to clips they captured of the two men rushing the field, which makes the viewing experience that much better.

If you’re a fan of the “Rush The Jones” tune, well, Slade and Cade have good news for you. They announced in a recent TikTok video that they are working on putting the ditty on Spotify- for a good cause.

“I just wanted to give you guys a couple of updates after we dropped the ‘Rush The Jones’ song. Number one, first and foremost, roommates are out of jail. Woohoo! So that’s awesome. Second of all, we’re going to get the song on Spotify. I’ve never done this before, so we’re rolling with the punches here. And third of all, we’re working on ‘Rush The Jones’ t-shirts with a distributor.

So all the money that we make from the t-shirts and I don’t know maybe Spotify, I don’t know how royalties work, will go to paying bail and legal fees. So, working on getting our roommates right.”

Cade says to start the video. Slade them chimes in and adds:

“We’re going to take care of those guys. All of us, we’re all going to take care of them. You know they entertained us during the rain delay, and that was pretty sweet. Thank you, there’s not enough I can say. We really appreciate the love we’ve received, and we are looking forward to doing it more and including the community. I think the only real thing to say now is, Rush the Jones!”

Things you love to see: That.

I hope Slade and Cade get this tune on Spotify and unveil the shirts sooner rather than later. It sounds like their buds might need some financial help with what they are facing.

This has to be one of the best viral moments that has come out of college football so far this season.
