Brandon Lake told his fans to tag a cowboy, and they sure did.
The Christian worship artist shared a teaser to a new song titled “When A Cowboy Prays,” and something tells me that Lake could be headed for yet another country music collaboration. Considering his first collab went over quite well, we might be in for many more country-Christian songs in the near future.
Back in May, there were two Christian songs that made the Hot 100 chart – the first time that’s happened in over a decade. One is Forrest Frank’s viral smash “Your Way’s Better,” and the other just so happened to be the Christian-country crossover that you’ve probably heard: “Hard Fought Hallelujah” with Christian artist Brandon Lake and rapper-turned-country-singer, Jelly Roll.
It seems as though the positive response to that one has inspired Brandon Lake to dip into the country music world once more with a song that he teased just a few days ago. The track that will be titled “When A Country Boy Prays” has one heck of a catchy chorus that goes like this:
“When a cowboy prays
It starts raining in Oklahoma
Long lost sons come home to mama
And those stubborn horses break.
When a cowboy prays
It’s a whisper and a rumble
It’s as strong as it is humble
This old world just ain’t the same
When a cowboy prays.”
Sounds like another country-Christian crossover hit to me.
Brandon Lake posted a video of him playing the song in the barn (classic country music move) and asked his followers if it would be a good time to drop the new track… and also implored for them to tag someone they know that they’d consider to be a cowboy:

Now whether or not Brandon Lake meant for his fans to tag a cowboy type, or tag an actual cowboy that is also one of the biggest country music stars in the world right now, is up for debate. Regardless of what he meant, his followers took it upon themselves to “tag” the one and only Cody Johnson, and beg that he be featured in the song in the comments section.
And I’m not exaggerating when I say almost every reply read something like this:
“Get Cody Johnson on this with you.”
“Brandon, you better be on the phone with Cody Johnson right now. Do not ignore this please.”
“Sir if you don’t get COJO on a version of this.”
“This is definitely a good song to collaborate with Cody Johnson.”
“Please get COJO for collaboration.”
“Great song, get Cody Johnson sing with you.”
“This with Cody Johnson would be even harder than it already is.”
“CODY JOHNSON NEEDS TO BE IN THIS WITH YOU!”
So yeah. Guess it’s safe to say that country music fans and Christian music fans have one particular person cowboy in mind to be featured on this future Brandon Lake release. Mr. Lake… let’s make it happen. The people have spoken. Get Cody Johnson on this one and get it released as soon as possible.
