Brought the house down.
Last night, Luke Combs became the first ever country artist to headline Lollapalooza in Chicago, and he brought out a surprise guest in Alex Warren as part of his set. Warren joined him to sing his own hit “Ordinary,” as well as Luke’s song “She Got The Best Of Me.”
Even if you don’t immediately recognize Warren or the name of his song, “Ordinary” became a massive hit this year after it was released in February as the lead single from his debut studio album, You’ll Be Alright, Kid, and I’m sure you’ve heard it at some point in the grocery store or anywhere in public, because I don’t listen to current pop music and I know most of the words just by accident.
Warren wrote the song with producer Adam Yaron, alongside Cal Shapiro and Mags Duval, and commercially, it couldn’t have done better, peaking atop the Billboard Hot 100 for eight non-consecutive weeks and topping the Billboard Global 200 for ten weeks.
Luke let it rip on the ballad for the thousands of people in the crowd at Lollapalooza, which to be honest, are probably not country music fans aside from a few Morgan Wallen hits. The headliners for this festival are far from country, and like I said, he’s the first country headliner, so it was a big task and from the sound of everyone singing along, I’d say he absolutely brought it and then some.
We all know Combs has an incredible voice, but when you hear him sing a pop ballad like this, it’s just a reminder of his vocal talent and how he really can sing anything. This was beyond good:

Warren also sounded great on “She Got The Best Of Me”:

While the rest of the weekend that includes superstars like Olivia Rodrigo, Tyler, The Creator, Sabrina Carpenter, RÜFÜS DU SOL, TWICE, A$AP Rocky and Korn as the other headliners, I honestly don’t know how they’re going to top Luke. I’d be willing to bet the Lolla audience was pleasantly surprised with what he delivered, because let’s be honest, a Luke Combs live show is second to none.
It’s a massively popular festival, and while Luke was the first ever country headliner, based on the reception and reaction he got, and the show he put on, I highly doubt he’ll be the last. Artists like him can hang with the biggest pop, rap and hip hop superstars in the world, and he put on a clinic last night.
