If you thought Miranda Lambert’s cheeky wardrobe malfunction was bad while recently performing on stage, imagine something like that happening when going to accept one of the biggest awards of your career.
Over the weekend, Miranda Lambert was opening up for Morgan Wallen, when fans in the pit got a little more than a concert from the “Tequila Does” artist. As Lambert was performing, her denim skirt began to ride up he behind, exposing part of her butt cheek. While the malfunction (which was hardly a malfunction, more of a mishap) was more of a peep show, leaving none of her lady parts on display, it sparked a conversation on the internet.

Thankfully, Lambert had the perfect response after the moment went viral, leaning into the humor of it all:

If you saw this viral moment and thought it was a bad wardrobe mishap, think again. While any sort of wardrobe malfunction is embarrassing, there have been far worse in country music history.
A prime example of this is Dolly Parton’s dress ripping down the front moments before having to walk across the stage to accept her CMA Entertainer of the Year award in 1978. After Johnny Cash and Ronnie Milsap announced Parton as that year’s winner, she got up to walk to the stage, but did not put down the coat she had in her lap. This, of course, left some fans questioning if she was cold, perhaps nervous, and forgot to put it down before going to accept the honor, or if she was unformattable.
She was definitely uncomfortable in a way, as when she got to the microphone, she shared with the audience that she needed to cover herself because there was a hole in her dress.
“Thank you. I do appreciate that. I had this dress made in case I won, and about five minutes ago, I was hoping I wouldn’t win because I busted the front out of it, and that’s why….”
Johnny Cash interjects and tells her that it’s alright and that he just loved watching her talk more than anything, which makes Parton and the audience chuckle.
“Anyway, my daddy said that’s what I got for putting 50 pounds of mud in a 5-pound bag.”
The audience laughs at her joke before she continues on with her acceptance speech.
Miranda Lambert learned from the best by playing off any wardrobe issues with humor, and, of course, the Queen of country music handled this terrible malfunction with grace, not letting it ruffle her feathers during a crucial career moment.
At least Miranda Lambert’s butt cheeks weren’t out on the CMA Awards stage… It could have been much worse, and thankfully, Dolly Parton had something to cover her up in this moment, too.
