Definitely wasn’t expecting that collab…but I ain’t mad at it.
Rock the Country just wrapped up their final stop of the year with a weekend in Anderson, South Carolina. The festival, which took place in nine different small towns across the country, featured headliners Kid Rock and Nickelback, along with an all-star lineup of artists from newcomers like Gavin Adcock and Hudson Westbrook to legends like Hank Williams Jr., Shenandoah, Mark Chesnutt and Tracy Lawrence – as well as some acts you might not expect, like the Ying Yang Twins and Afroman.
Over the past few weekends, we’ve seen some unexpected collabs on stage at Rock the Country, like when Gavin Adcock joined Afroman for a performance of “Crazy Rap” recently.

But they may have saved the most unexpected collab for the final weekend.
Yesterday in South Carolina, Hank Williams Jr. was joined by Afroman on stage during his performance of his iconic hit “Family Tradition.” And honestly, it kind of worked…
@ogafroman WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD MORNING LADIES IF THE SOUTH WOULD HAVE WON I WOULDNT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO INTERGRATE THE STAGE WITH HANK WILLIAM JR LOL NOW ITS A FAMILY TRADITION 😂I WANNA THANK HANK WILLIAMS JR AND HIS CREW FOR MAKING THIS HISTORICAL MOMENT HAPPEN!👍🏾✌🏾@hankwilliamsjr

Of course when you think about it, it kinda makes sense to have Afroman on the song. His biggest hit is “Because I Got High,” and “Family Tradition” is also about getting high. (Why else would you roll smoke?) So hey, I’m not mad at it.
And Afroman, whose real name is Joseph Edgar Foreman, has appeared on stage with other country artists in the past. Along with Gavin at Rock the Country, he also joined Jelly Roll on stage for a surprise performance of “Crazy Rap” in Lubbock, Texas a couple years ago.
@_makeupbyhailee The nicest man ever😂 #fyp #makeupbyhailee #jellyroll #bunniexo #afroman #colt45
“Crazy Rap” is just one of those songs that transcend fans of all genres. I listened to mostly country music when I was in college, but Afroman’s hit (commonly referred to as “Colt 45”) was still in regular rotation at parties, at the bar, in my car, pretty much everywhere. To this day I can still recite every word. (It’s also one of my go-to karaoke songs…I’m sure there’s video of that out there somewhere).
And let’s be honest, everybody knows Afroman’s biggest hit, “Because I Got High,” regardless of what kind of music you listen to.
So while you may think it’s weird to have Afroman on a country music festival, it seems like he’s got songs that are familiar to pretty much everybody. And on a festival celebrating America and featuring some of the biggest outlaws from across the musical spectrum, it actually makes perfect sense to have Afroman there too – decked out in his red, white and blue.
