Still learning even after two decades in the business.
Miranda Lambert is obviously one of the biggest names in country music, and arguably THE biggest female artist out there right now. She could easily be headlining arenas and amphitheaters, and if she’s on a festival her name is usually at the top of the lineup.
But this year, most of her tour dates are as an opener for Morgan Wallen.
It’s easy to see why Miranda would open for a superstar like Morgan. He’s easily the hottest artist in country music, and aside from Taylor Swift one of the biggest artists in ANY genre. His I’m The Problem tour is one of the biggest tours in the country, hitting stadiums and playing two sold-out shows at every stop.
I mean, when you have Brooks & Dunn and Miranda Lambert as OPENERS? Yeah, things are going pretty well.
Of course Miranda received some backlash when it was announced that she was opening for Morgan, who’s a polarizing figure in country music not just for his music but for all of the controversies in his personal life. In fact, Miranda even poked fun at the criticism with a video reading some of the hate comments she got when the tour was announced:
But it doesn’t sound like she regrets her decision to open up for Morgan. (And why would she?)
During an interview with Cody Alan on his SiriusXM morning show Highway Mornings with Cody Alan, Miranda revealed what she’s learned from touring with country music’s biggest name – and getting the opportunity to introduce herself to a whole new audience:
“I’m learning a lot, honestly. I feel like I’m learning about his fan base. It’s kind of people from all walks of life. It’s not necessarily a bunch of country fans, is what I’m seeing from the stage. I’m watching, there’s a certain age group in the middle that may not be as familiar with me. Because I’ve been around forever, but then I see people that are in their 30s and 40s bringing their kids, and they know the songs. So it’s interesting to watch.”
And she says that watching Morgan perform has even inspired her as an artist because of the energy and passion that he brings to the stage:
“I watch his show every night and it’s a great show. Morgan is a superstar. He’s sweet and kind and has been great to us, and just watching the passion and joy that he exudes on stage, it re-inspires me. I love how the fans are just so in it, and they sing every word to the record that just came out.
It gives you life as an artist to know that people are diving right into your new music and wanting to sing it and wanting to be there and show up. I love watching it. I’ve been watching from the front where I can really see the show.”
Of course Morgan and Miranda have been friends and collaborated together in the past. Miranda co-wrote Morgan’s #1 hit “Thought You Should Know” back in 2022, and have performed the song together before.
Most recently though, Miranda took the stage with Morgan during a stop on the I’m The Problem tour to perform a duet of Morgan’s hit “cowgirls.” (Kinda perfect for a cowgirl like Miranda).
@welcome_to_mww Miranda Lambert joined Morgan Wallen to perform “Long Live Cowgirls” last night on the ‘I’m The Problem Tour! #imtheproblemtour #morganwallen #mirandalambert
Seems like they’re having a good time out on tour – and Miranda’s even learning a thing or two herself along the way.
