Taking good bedside manner to a new level.
Medical procedures of any kind can be scary, even if you are not going under anesthesia. As a medical provider, it’s your job to ensure your patient is calm, cool, and collected when they go into a surgery and/or under anesthesia. While most doctors will hold your hand, ask questions, or play one of your favorite shows before the operation happens or as you go under anesthesia, one surgeon is going viral for going the extra mile to make this patient comfortable.
He sings them their favorite song as they get put under.
William J. Vinyard, MD, FACS, or the Singing Surgeon, is a plastic surgeon located in Port St. Lucie, Florida who has repeatedly gone viral singing to his patients as his team puts them under anesthesia. Dr. Vinyard has an incredible voice and has sung a wide variety of genres to his patients in these videos, but he shines the most when his patients request country songs from him.
From covering Garth Brooks’ “The Dance” to The King’s “Amarillo By Morning,” he can sing it all. In the most recent viral clip from the Singing Surgeon, his patient requested Cody Johnson’s “With You I Am.” In the video’s caption, they shared why Dr. Vinyard sings to his patients, reiterating that it makes the patients feel at peace before being sedated.
“Before every surgery, each patient chooses a special song—one that brings them peace, strength, or joy—and Dr. Vinyard sings it to them as they drift off to sleep. It’s more than a moment. It’s a reminder that they’re safe, seen, and never alone. With them, he is more than a surgeon—he’s a reminder that compassion still has a place in medicine.”
In the video, the doctor holds the patient’s hand as he sings to her, and gets through a few lines before the anesthesiologist begins administering the medication. While I am sure this song has significant meaning for her to have picked it, if a man were singing this CoJo love song to me, I would have asked the doctor, “What are we?” Talk about a tender moment…
As I previously mentioned, the surgeon does have a pretty good voice. Maybe once he retires from being a doctor, he can secure some gigs as a cover singer.
Check it out.

“This is how it should be, someone holding your hand, music playing, maybe singing, going under is scary enough, especially when they don’t talk to you or anything.”
“I would be asking for Sir Mix-A-Lot or something crazy.”
Respect for that last comment. “Baby Got Back” is the perfect song to drift off to…
