Haven’t been to Nashville lately, eh?
Visitors to Music City have no doubt walked by the iconic mural outside of Legends Corner on Broadway.
The painting features many of the biggest names in country music history, legends like Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Reba, Merle Haggard and Alan Jackson, along with modern-day superstars like Blake Shelton, Keith Urban and Brad Paisley.
But a few years ago, it also featured…Taylor Swift.
Swift was originally in the photo seated at a table along with AJ, but back in 2020 was painted over and replaced by Paisley. And at the time it had Swifties up in arms as they argued that Taylor deserved to be on the mural because of her contributions to country music early in her career – despite the fact that she’s no longer a country artist.
According to the artist, Tim Davis, it was always the intention of the owners to change up the mural every once in a while, taking some artists off and adding others to the painting. And Davis admits he’s heard complaints about Taylor’s place on the mural in the past:
“I have heard many complaints here in Nashville about Taylor being on the wall with country legends since she is currently focused mainly on pop. Some inebriated bar hoppers have spit on her image specifically, feeling betrayed by her venture from country. I guess this is to be expected, but by in large, the people of Nashville love her, as do I.”
I mean, it makes sense (not to spit on her picture, but to replace her with somebody who’s actually country).
But apparently people somehow missed the news back in 2020 when it happened, because a meme has gone viral several times over recent months showing that Taylor was removed from the mural while conveniently leaving out that it’s old news – and it’s causing country music fans to celebrate because they think it just happened.
Here’s just one example of a post recently that’s racked up thousands of comments from folks who don’t realize that this happened five years ago:
Of course the idea of removing Swift from the mural is also popular among President Donald Trump’s supporters given the president’s recent beef with the pop star.
The president’s obviously not a big fan of the pop superstar, who endorsed his opponent in the last two presidential elections. And after the pop superstar endorsed Kamala Harris last fall, Trump went in on her on social media, posting on his Truth Social platform that he “hated” Taylor Swift.
Trump was at the Super Bowl this year, where he received quite the warm reception, while Swift was the target of boos from the Philadelphia Eagles fans in attendance at the game in New Orleans – something that Trump took notice of and shared videos of the contrasting receptions:
And he even threw some shade at the pop superstar when the Eagles visited the White House last month:
“It was an incredible game. A little surprising, but right from the beginning in the first quarter of the big game – which I was there. I watched in person. I was there along with Taylor Swift. How did that work out? How did that one work out?”
And apparently Trump still had Taylor Swift on his mind as he was overseas on his historic Middle East trip through Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE this past weekend.
In a post to his Truth Social platform on Friday, Trump once again took a shot at the pop star, claiming that she’s “no longer hot” since he said that he hated her:
“Has anyone noticed that, since I said “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,” she’s no longer “HOT?””
Well he may be responsible for the fact that she’s no longer “hot,” but it’s hard to say he’s responsible for getting her removed from the Legends mural. Because that happened way back in 2020.
