How The Garth Brooks “Where Are The Bodies?” Joke Got Started

Garth Brooks Tom Segura

The joke that just keeps on giving…

Today, Comedian, podcast host, friend of Joe Rogan and enemy of country music icon, Garth Brooks, the great Tom Segura has officially debuted his first television series, Bad Thoughts, on Netflix.

According to the description, the comedy series “centers on Segura, who also serves as the show’s narrator, as he takes us through each episode in a series of vignettes. The twisted comedic sensibility of Tom’s stand-up is the core DNA of this series, where every story will unfold in a hilariously disturbing way only he could imagine.”

One of the earliest teasers for the show even featured Segura – dressed just like Garth Brooks – saying “I like that.” And that’s pulled word for word from Brooks’ vocabulary, so there’s no question that one episode of this series is poking fun at the “Friends in Low Places” singer. I can almost guarantee you that Garth Brooks won’t be “liking that” and I’d say that Tom Segura’s loyal fanbase will eat it up, and country music fans who have been amused by the Segura-Brooks rivalry just might be intrigued enough to give it a shot.

So that being said, let’s take a look back on how this all began… because the joke has been running for A LONG time…

These days, Garth keeps his social media comments to a minimum, or downright turned off following the sexual assault allegations that broke last year. But prior to that, you may have noticed that ALL of Garth Brooks’ social media posts, especially on Instagram, are littered with comments asking him a rather peculiar question:

“Where are the bodies Garth?”

Just a quick Twitter search and you’ll find hundreds and hundreds of comments like this:

Do these fans know something we don’t? Is there some sort of conspiracy being uncovered right in front of our very eyes? Is Garth Brooks actually a serial killer with approximately 200-300 bodies buried somewhere on his property? Or… is this just a hilarious internet joke (yes) from two professional comedians (Tom Segura and his wife Christina Pazsitzky) that caught fire years and years ago, and since then Garth’s comments have officially been hijacked by “Mommies” in the funniest possible way? (yes, again).

Let’s investigate.

It all started back in October of 2018 when Garth announced his Stadium Tour, the one that he wanted to call The Big-A** Stadium Tour, but ended up just calling it the Stadium Tour instead. (Now 7 years later, rapper turned country singer Post Malone is on his own Big A** Stadium Tour… I would’ve never guessed that this is where we’d be back in 2018, but here we are). Anyways, Garth announced the tour standing in the Country Music Hall Of Fame with the most “Garth Brooks-esque” video you can possibly imagine. He starts talking about “getting physical playing music” and how much he “likes that.” I mean, the video will bring you hours and hours of enjoyment.

If you don’t remember, here’s a refresher… you’re welcome:

Tom and Christina saw the video and discussed it more in-depth on an episode of their “Your Mom’s House Podcast,” with Tom coming to the conclusion that Garth has to be a serial killer with bodies buried all over his yard… an obvious joke, but it took off like wildfire.

Garth Brooks, the great and powerful Garth Brooks, Country Music Hall of Famer, one of the greatest live acts in country music history, selling out professional football stadium after professional football stadium, had his entire comment section on Instagram and Twitter hijacked by the rabid following of two hilarious comedians… and I’m not going to lie, it was hysterical. It was hysterical for years, and it’s still hysterical.

For a long time Garth never deleted any of the comments and I can only imagine how confused the team was reading over the comments. Eventually, he got wind of the situation (probably thanks to us writing an article about it), and he blocked Tom Segura on social media. Segura confirmed on fellow comedian Theo Von’s This Past Weekend podcast in 2023 that the day finally came, and he was officially blocked by Garth:

“First I got word about a year ago from a 100% reliable source… I was like, ‘Does he know?’ And they’re like ‘Oh yeah, yeah. He knows.’ And I was like, ‘Is he upset?’

And they’re like, ‘He just doesn’t get it. Doesn’t know why you’re talking about him. I was like, ‘Okay.’ And then recently… he just blocked me on Instagram. And I was like, oh, he finally blocked me.”

And the rest, as they say… is history.

Here’s the clip that started it all.

And you can’t forget this one, Garth’s first ever Facebook post… which is specifically referenced in the Bad Thoughts trailer:

So… where are the bodies Garth? Please, these families need closure…
