When it comes to songwriting, few can do it better than Nicholas Jamerson.
With a longstanding presence at the forefront of Kentucky’s thriving music scene, from his days as one of half of the Sundy Best duo to his current solo and full band work, Jamerson has paved the way for artists from Eastern Kentucky and inspired songwriters to follow in his footsteps for over a decade at this point. A prolific songwriter who respects the craft and treats the process with reverence, Jamerson’s catalog is full of heartfelt ballads and Appalachian anthems. And with plenty of new music on the way, Jamerson shows no signs of letting up.
In fact, he’s kicking his songwriting into a higher gear, and his next single “Days Like These” is proof. A love song about finding joy and happiness in the little victories amidst all of the chaos in life, and inspiring others to do the same, Jamerson’s latest single showcases his songwriting prowess with the use of Appalachian imagery and descriptive lyricism, and it’s a must listen for anyone who considers themselves a country music fan. Or just a fan of good music in general.
While it isn’t slated to hit streaming platforms until tonight, Whiskey Riff has teamed up with Nicholas Jamerson to give fans an early listen of his new track. But first, Jamerson was kind enough to provide some commentary on “Days Like These” in a quick Q&A.

Q: In your own words, what is “Days Like These” about and what does it mean to you?
A: “‘Days Like These’ is a celebration of the good days that shine through the messiness of life. I wrote it for my fiancée after we spent Valentines Day together at Breaks Interstate Park in Virginia – a simple but meaningful milestone in our relationship. As parents, it’s easy to get caught up in the endless list of duties and routines, and this song is a reminder of the importance of carving out time to just be together, outside of the daily grind. At its core, it’s about remembering why we love each other and how, at the end of the day, being together is all really we need.”
Q: What was the writing process like for “Days Like These” and how did this song come about?
A: “I actually started writing this song as a kind of haiku – just playing around with fitting the right number of syllables together. From there, it naturally grew and evolved into one of my favorite songs. It’s really a ‘day in the life’ type of song, just walking the listener through simple, ordinary moments that add up to something meaningful.”
Q: Without giving away too much about the upcoming record, how does “Days Like These” fit within the ethos of the whole project?
A: “The new record is about navigating the highs and lows of life, and I think one of the keys to getting through it all is learning to celebrate victories when they come – no matter how small. “Days Like These” represents that spirit of victory and redemption. It’s about recognizing love, connection, and presence as answered prayers, and taking the time to honor those moments when things feel right.”

While I don’t believe the details have officially been released yet, “Days Like These” marks the second single from what will be Jamerson’s 7th album. Set for release later this year, it’ll be his first released via Evan Honer’s independent record label Cloverdale Records. And believe me, this album is full of heaters, so you’re going to want to keep an eye out for more details to come.
In the meantime, the debut single “Dark in Every Day” hit streaming platforms a couple of weeks ago, so give that a listen below if you haven’t had the chance to yet.
And whether he’s playing with his full band The Morning Jays, stripping it back for an acoustic set, or playing somewhere in between with a duo or trio, hearing Nicholas Jamerson’s perform his songs live is a moving experience under any circumstance. While he mostly only has festival dates scheduled thus far for the remainder of the year, I’d have to imagine a more extensive headlining tour is in the works to promote the new album.
