The 2027 NFL Draft heading to the nation’s capital.

When you think about it, the NFL schedule never really stops. The regular season rolls right into the post season, the post season rolls right into the Super Bowl, the “Big Game” rolls right into free agency, and then free agency rolls right into the NFL Draft… and so on and so forth.

The most popular sport in America has figured out how to capitalize on constantly being in the stream of sports news. And now, one of the leagues signature events is the NFL Draft, which has seemingly gotten bigger and bigger as the years have gone on.

Green Bay, Wisconsin – home of the Packers – just recently hosted the 2025 NFL Draft, and it was a huge success. Over 600,000 football fans attended the draft that was hosted near Lambeau Field. Where did all those people stay? Who knows! Green Bay’s infrastructure probably shouldn’t be able to handle that kind of influx, but they and the NFL somehow pulled it off.

So now, the National Football League is looking towards the future. With recent success of hosting the NFL Draft outside in places like Nashville, Tennessee, there is now a legitimate push to never host the event indoors ever again. Next year, the draft will head to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. And then in 2027, it appears that the NFL Draft will take place in our nation’s capital: Washington, D.C..

As the above post from Front Office Sports suggests, President Trump was expected to make an announcement about the 2027 NFL Draft from the White House… and that he did. Along with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, and Washington Commanders owner Josh Harris, Donald Trump enthusiastically shared the news that the NFL Draft would take place in the nation’s capital in 2027 at the National Mall:

“I am pleased to reveal that the 2027 NFL Draft… that’s a big thing, will be held right here in our nation’s capital.: Washington, D.C. on the National Mall. I was just saying to Roger (Goodell) that I don’t think there’s ever been anything like that. In fact, maybe we could use it for other things also.”

The National Mall area is typically used for presidential inaugurations, and is the site of both the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument. The U.S. Capitol is also on the eastern side of the area, with the White House to the north. The Smithsonian Museums are also a part of the National Mall… so in other words, it’s the centerpiece of Washington D.C. if you’ve never been.

Maybe the 2027 NFL Draft will be the perfect opportunity to take a trip to our nation’s capital? You could take in all of the sights that the city has to offer, and then also see which college football star your favorite NFL team (who you likely invest way too much of your time and emotion into) picks to save their franchise. And it’ll all be happening in the shadow of the Washington Monument.

Getting drafted into the NFL is cool… but getting drafted within feet of the Lincoln Memorial? Even better if you ask me…
