Still one of the greatest moments in NFL draft history, in my humble opinion.
Even though it had nothing to do with football, every time the first draft night rolls around, I can’t help but remember the 2019, when hundreds of thousands of fans descended upon Nashville to take it all in and maybe even watch their team draft a future NFL superstar.
The exciting night is back once again, starting this evening at 8PM EST, and of course, many prospects will be gathered in Green Bay, Wisconsin for the first time, and it will be held at Lambeau Field, which will certainly make for an interesting night that’s very different than what they’ve done in years past in New York City, mostly, and even in the aforementioned Music City one year.
The Tennessee Titans have the first pick tonight, and they’re expected to take Miami quarterback Cam Ward… my Panthers have the eighth overall pick, and while I’ve of course heard different things, it seems likely that we’ll be taking Georgia’s Jalon Walker or Michigan’s Mason Graham, but who knows… anything can happen on draft night.
I honestly can’t imagine what it will be like to have the draft at an NFL stadium, but Lambeau Field is historic and should make for a cool background, though I do hope they have it in Nashville again because there’s just something electric about all the activity and added excitement in an already-bustling city that makes it even better and more exciting.
But if you’re a bride-to-be looking to celebrate there, well, you would probably beg to differ… and what happened six years ago proves that some of the girls are NOT fans of the Nashville NFL draft idea.
At the time, an interview with two girls in particular went mega viral, as they explained how they had no clue the draft was happening and would quite literally take over Broadway, where they’d hoped to drink and bar hop without hundreds of thousands of other football fans also taking over.
I’ll tell you who’s not happy about the NFL Draft in Nashville… People who planned their bachelorette parties with no idea this was happening! @FOXNashville pic.twitter.com/dd3VnbRkIl

In total over the three-day period, over 600,000 fans attended the draft, and it was truly a mob of people so I can imagine how it would be frustrating to navigate regardless of the reason that you were there:
200,000 people. Two-hundred thousand. Nashville came to party and there will never be another NFL Draft like it 👏🏻 pic.twitter.com/APmz7GNq5r

But I can just imagine the shattered expectations of the girls in matching pink cowboy hates getting out the Uber at Tootsie’s, only to see NFL Draft signs plastered everywhere and coming to the quick realization that this weekend would be way more about football than celebrating Brittany and Brad’s big day… and hey, I’m not judging them for being upset, but as a girl who loves football and watches the draft every year, I can’t help but laugh at the entire situation. I don’t blame them for being annoyed, but it’s still hilarious…
One bachelorette even claimed that her husband would be the one to pay for their lack of planning and wouldn’t be allowed to watch football in the fall.
“The person who is going to pay for this is my husband when I refuse to watch football the entire season. Like, I’m talking no Super Bowl. You only get married once, how often does the draft happen? Every year.”
Not even the Super Bowl? YIKES… I can only imagine the hell he had to pay when she got home, and I can’t help but wonder how that marriage is going now.
The interview that stole the show is still as funny as ever, and I hope any future brides check the draft location if you have a trip planned for April in any city going forward, because the location does tend to change year-to-year these days.
And future husbands, you might really want to make sure your girls trip doesn’t overlap with a draft weekend, because not being able to watch the Super Bowl could be grounds for a divorce…
