The family drama continues.
I had no idea that the most shocking news to come out of Easter weekend (honestly, it was more surprising than hearing that the Pope passed away), was that Billy Ray Cyrus is dating super model and actress and model Elizabeth Hurley. Hurley shared a photo of the two of them sharing a kiss, with Billy Ray wearing a pair of bunny ears, along with the caption:
“Happy Easter.”
It sent the internet into a frenzy, because I’ll be honest they’re the last two people on earth I would put together, and Billy Ray has not exactly had a lot of positive press in the last several years… if you’ve never heard the insane voicemail of Billy berating his superstar daughter Miley Cyrus, go ahead and Google that one… it’s really something.
He married a woman named Firerose who was 28 years his junior in October of 2023, and in May of 2024, Cyrus filed for divorce from Firerose. Cyrus gave more recently gave a horrific performance at the at the Liberty Ball during President Trump’s inauguration, and has seemed generally unwell every time there’s news about him, honestly.
His own sons have posted things about wanting to help him and rebuild a relationship, and he appears to have strained relationship with his kids, at least publicly, but who really knows… not everything in the news is always super accurate, as we all know.
Of course, Cyrus was married to his now ex-wife Tish for nearly 28 years, and they had three kids together, Miley, Braison and Noah, and he adopted her children Brandi and Trace, from a previous relationship.
But apparently, Tish is not happy about her ex’s new relationship with Hurley, as The Daily Mail spoke to a source who said she views it as a “slap in the face,” because “Billy Ray met Elizabeth in 2022 on the set of their Christmas film, which they both starred in. Tish had her thoughts and suspicions at the time that he was cheating on her with Liz, but Billy Ray flat out denied it.”
I’m not making any assumptions or judgements, but Tish and Billy Ray filed for divorce in 2022, and Tish allegedly had suspicions about the nature of Billy Ray and Elizabeth’s relationship being more than friends even back then:
“They got very close on the set and seeing that they are together now is a slap in the face for Tish, but it also confirms that she was likely right about her suspicions. They never stopped being in contact.”
While the obvious thing to think is that this new relationship is some sort of rebound, other close to the family think Hurley could be good for Billy Ray and maybe help him stay on the “straight and narrow”:
“Despite what people think about this, she is good for him. If she can keep Billy Ray on the straight and narrow, more power to her. The fact that she has such a history with him and met him at a time in his life when he was doing well is a good thing. He can be himself around her.”
Who knows how true all of this is, because Tish has been moved on and married Prison Break actor Dominic Purcell in 2023. She has a podcast with her daughter Brandi called Sorry We’re Cyrus, so maybe she’ll give some more insight there if all of these reports are true.
Either way, I still can’t get over the fact that Billy Ray pulled Elizabeth Hurley…
