Just heartbreaking.
Actress Michelle Trachtenberg, known for appearing in TV and films like EuroTrip, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Gossip Girl, and the Disney movie Ice Princess passed away a few months ago at the very young age of 39 on February 26th, 2025.
She was sadly found by her mother at her apartment, One Columbus Place, a 51-story luxury apartment complex in Manhattan’s Central Park South neighborhood, and it was an incredibly sad, heartbreaking situation for her family and friends. Fans had expressed concern for her health last year, after she appeared rather frail, with very yellow eyes, though multiple reports at the time of her death stated that she recently undergone a liver transplant.
At the time of her death, Michelle’s family declined to have an autopsy done, though People reports that the decision was amended “following review of toxicology testing results.” And according to the spokesperson, “toxicology testing can be done without autopsy.”
The outlet also confirmed via the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner that the actress’ sudden death was a result of complications of diabetes mellitus, and the manner of death was ruled as natural. Prior to this news, and insider told People that Michelle had been “really sick,” and was struggling with a lot of that illness privately:
“She was really, really sick and open with those in her circle about how much she was struggling. She was “pale, gaunt, very thin, and dealing with health issues.”
As aforementioned, sources confirmed she had recently undergone a liver transplant as well, and a separate source told People that Trachtenberg had been “really really down emotionally” and had “told friends she was struggling” in the last year.
Trachtenberg was born in New York City on October 11th, 1985, and started acting at a young age, appearing in the classic 90’s Nickelodeon series The Adventures of Pete and Pete, playing Nona F. Mecklenberg. She made her movie debut in 1996, starring in Harriet the Spy. In 2021, she made bombshell allegations against Buffy creator and Avengers director Joss Whedon (Whedon denied the allegations), claiming he was physically abusive and she had a rule that prohibiting him from being alone in a room with her on set.
Many probably love her as Georgina Sparks on “Gossip Girl,” though she’s been in so many movies and shows I watched growing up, and was a beloved actress and person, and so many who never met her were still deeply saddened by this loss.
It’s just an incredibly sad situation all the way around, and hopefully her family can find some sort of peace in knowing that she passed naturally and knowing that she no longer has to deal with the physical and emotional pain she was experiencing here on earth.
Rest In Peace Michelle Trachtenberg.
