Got a deer coming at me, ass in the sand, all the worries in the world because this deer’s throwing hands.
Life wasn’t good this day for the man that got attacked by a deer on the beach. It’s unclear where this brutal, one-sides showdown took place, but it’s pretty clear that it isn’t Florida. Which is a shame, because “Guy at beach gets in fight with deer” seems like a headline straight out of the Sunshine State.
Though deer are often painted to be non intelligent animals (because they can’t avoid getting hit by cars), they are actually incredibly smart – and have incredible memory. If something feels off to them, even in the slightest, they’ll high-tail it out of the area and likely won’t ever return. And their heightened senses of smell, hearing and vision generally help them avoid being turned into summer sausage, or at the very least, dinner for another predator.
They also have a pretty reliable fight-or-flight response, and that’s on display in the video below.
From what I can see, it looks like the deer only chose to fight this shirtless man on the beach because it was provoked. Provoking an animal doesn’t always mean messing with it. Even just getting too close to a deer – or any other wild animal for that matter – can trigger their fight response.
The National Park Service advises tourists to stay 25 yards away from animals that are deemed “non-violent,” like bison, elk, and other creatures that tend to be relatively docile. When it comes to bears, wolves, and other apex predators, the NPS warns park goers to keep a football-field-distance (100 yards for non-sports-fans) between them and the animals.
Clearly this man got closer than 25 yards.
And there are plenty of things that I love about this video. To be clear, I’m not a fan of the guy harassing the deer that had every right to be on the beach. That’s not cool at all. However, there were a couple of different aspects of the clip that I found particularly humorous and entertaining:
-Despite the people filming speaking in a different language, they still managed to work in a “SH*T! SH*T!”
-I’m assuming that the people the guy was with were family members, and they were laughing their asses off as the guy got his ass beat by the smaller deer
No matter how much the man retreated, the deer just kept coming after him. The funny situation quickly turned dangerous when the wild animal – albeit small in stature – was able to introduce the man’s buttocks to the sand of the beach. Things got so bad at one point, a little girl armed with a paddle got involved… which probably isn’t recommended by the NPS, if I had to guess.

That deer was raining down hooves of fury.
Fortunately, the group of beachgoers were eventually able to scare the deer away, though not before it got plenty of nasty hits in on the man who looked to be slowly (but surely) losing his swim trunks. And you’d think people watching this clip would feel bad for the guy getting showed up by a small deer in front of his whole family, right?
Wrong:
“I’m on the deer’s side. Go Rocky!”
“Deer: +100. Human: -50. Deer wins the bout on decision.”
“That guy’s wife enjoyed that.”
“The old Round House never fails! Back off Jack.”
“That dude got f**ked up!”
“Got what he deserved.”
“Trying to pet that wild animal was a huge, fat mistake.”
That last one seemed a little too personal…
