Absolutely heartbreaking.

A 17-year old Texas football player is dead after being fatally stabbed during a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas this week – and the 17-year old killer reportedly confessed to police after being apprehended.

According to NBC DFW, it all started when Austin Metcalf reportedly told Karmelo Anthony, who went to a different school, to move out from under their tent during the track meet at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco, Texas.

A confrontation ensued, and a witness told police that Anthony said, “touch me and see what happens.” According to the police report:

“Austin grabbed Anthony to tell him to move and Anthony pulled out … a black knife and stabbed Austin once in the chest.”

After officers arrived on scene, apparently one referred to Anthony as the “alleged” suspect – but he quickly clarified that he was the one who stabbed Metcalf:

“I’m not alleged, I did it.”

Anthony also reportedly asked an officer if what he did could be considered self-defense, and says that Metcalf put his hands on him first.

Metcalf, a linebacker from Frisco Memorial High School, passed away in his twin brother Hunter’s arms, according to his father Jeff Metcalf:

“They were twins, identical twins, and his brother was holding on to him, trying to make it stop bleeding, and he died in his brother’s arms.”

Anthony claims that the attack was self-defense, but has been charged with murder and is being held on a $1 million bond. But his parents are defending their son, with his dad claiming that Anthony was not the aggressor in the attack:

“Everyone has already made their assumptions about my son, but he’s not what they’re making him out to be. He’s a good kid. He works two jobs. He’s an A student, has a 3.7 GPA.”

Meanwhile, Metcalf’s final social media post, made just days before his death, has gone viral and even captured the attention of country singer John Rich:

In a GoFundMe established to help pay funeral expenses, Jeff Metcalf remembered his son as someone with a passion for football and a bright future ahead of him:

“My son, Austin Metcalf, was tragically stabbed today at a school track meet. They were not able to save him. He was a bright young man with a great future ahead of him. He was a leader of men. His smile would light up the room. His passion for football was unbelievable. Voted team MVP this past season and carried a 4.0 GPA. He was looking forward to taking his game to the next level. His commitment, dedication, leadership, and sheer grit made him rise to the level of success that he desired. His twin brother, Hunter, played beside him. We will all remember him for the way he impacted others’ lives. I love you forever, son. It’s not goodbye, it’s see you later. God will take care of us till we meet again. RIP. Love, Dad”

But his dad says he forgives the teen who killed his son:

“I’m not trying to judge, but what kind of parents did this child have? What was he taught? He brought a knife to a track meet and he murdered my son by stabbing him in the heart. The guy was in the wrong place and they asked him to move and he bowed up. This is murder.

You know what, I already forgive this person. Already. God takes care of things. God is going to take care of me. God is going to take care of my family.”

And Metcalf’s twin brother, Hunter, tearfully remembers the moments that he tried to save his brother’s life:

“I tried to whip around as fast as I could. I looked at my brother and I’m not going to talk about the rest. I tried to help him.”

Just a heartbreaking situation all around.
