Morgan Wallen had a flight to catch.
Last night (Morgan Wallen pun intended), the country music superstar was the musical guest on Saturday Night Live. Obviously his appearance was made in an effort to help promote his new album, I’m The Problem, and corresponding tour. But all signs pointed towards him being not-all-that interested in being “Live From New York!”
Wallen is currently trending online because during SNL’s signature end of show sendoff – where the cast, host and musical guest all say goodbye to the audience and hug and chat – the country music singer gave his pleasantries to host Mikey Madison (who won the 2025 Oscar for “Best Actress” for her performance in Anora) and then Wallen walked right off the stage.
As you can see here:

You’ll probably also notice that the cast was weirdly separating themselves from both Wallen and Madison. I’ve watched a lot of SNL in my life and I don’t think I’ve ever seen that large of a gap between the host/musical guest and the Saturday Night Live members.
And when Morgan walked right off center stage of Studio 8H, the cast seemingly reacted like this, although, who knows what they’re actually looking at:

It appears that Morgan Wallen couldn’t wait to get out of New York City, and his Instagram story that he posted shortly after his early exit confirmed that.
The “Whiskey Glasses” singer shared a picture from the airport in New York and captioned it with this:
“Get Me Back To God’s Country.”

When Wallen wants to go, Wallen goes.
Honestly, this awkward exit was probably nothing more than that… just an awkward exit. Maybe he didn’t realize he was supposed to stick around, maybe he actually did have a flight to catch in a hurry, who really knows… I don’t think it was a “middle finger” to the cast and crew like SNL fans are pretending it was.
But at the same time, I’d be willing to bet that the country music star didn’t feel all that welcome by Saturday Night Live and its cast. Like I said before, I’ve never seen the cast stand so far away from a guest, and all you need to do is take one look through the comments on SNL’s official social media channels to see the hate for Morgan. These elitist Hollywood types have Morgan pegged as a “racist redneck, good ol’ boy”… I wouldn’t want to be there either. And it’s not like Morgan Wallen needs the press, why even put yourself through that?
Clearly, Wallen didn’t feel at home in New York City, and just wanted to get back to his actual home as soon as he could. I think we can all relate to that feeling. Though there are plenty of hateful comments about the situation on the internet right now, there were plenty of people on social media that sided with Morgan Wallen:
When someone feels the presence of evil it is probably a good time to leave the room. I had this same feeling when I visited Hollywood. Good for Morgan

If you go back and watch the clips of Mikey with Morgan and Chloe from midweek (the hi I’m Mikey Madison and I’m hosting SNL this week with Morgan Wallen clips) you’ll see he didn’t want to shoot those either, and probably only did SNL cause his manager and agent made him.

I would’ve done the same.

Lol Morgan’s so real

Yeah Morgan definitely didn’t want to mingle with the cast at all or be there. I’m guessing they weren’t very receptive to each other. He could care less about his SNL experience this week. You could tell in the promos and performances that he just phoned it in this week

And this isn’t the first time that Morgan Wallen and SNL has appeared to have some bad blood.
In what was supposed to be Morgan Wallen’s SNL debut back in 2020, he was filmed partying (maskless and making out with about a dozen college girls) down in Tuscaloosa, Alabama during the peak of the COVID outbreak. That video surfaced the week before he was scheduled to be the musical guest on Saturday Night Live. The long-running sketch show gave him the boot for being irresponsible about his pre-show quarantine, and he was eventually brought back on around two months later.
It’ll be intriguing to see if he’s ever invited back after this one, or if Morgan Wallen would even be interested in returning…
In the meantime, check out his performance of “Just In Case”:
