Eagles in golf are rare… especially if they are flying around the course and killing other birds.
There’s nothing like a day out on the golf course. Even if you shoot a few (or a bunch) over par, there’s just something about being outside and being one with nature… and drinking a couple of beers and powering through some hot dogs at the turn.
And typically, the word “eagle” is reserved for a score in golf that’s two-under-par. However, because golf happens in the great outdoors, occasionally the “Big Bird” can make a literal appearance. If I’m losing you with all of the golf jargon, I’m just trying to set the scene here… a bald eagle is featured in this wild video below.
Bald eagles weigh anywhere between six and fifteen pounds (with females actually weighing more than males) and have a wingspan ranging from six to eight feet. And like vultures, bald eagles tend to be opportunistic hunters. Sure, they’ll hunt something down if they absolutely need to in order to survive, though they’ll just as likely take a couple of bites out of something that’s already been captured and killed. They’ve also been known to steal captured fish and other small prey right out of the hands/claws/talons of other creatures.
Funny enough, they prefer to not work very hard for their own food.
By no means am I trying to take away the luster from the bald eagle. I’ve had a tear come to my eye seeing one fly through the sky in person just like the rest of you. I’m just doing my best to inform you on what a bald eagle really is, and I’ll be the first to admit that even though they typically go for easy meals, they’ve got the power and ability to go get their own dinner whenever they want.
Take this video below, for example. Some golfers were out hitting their little white balls around when their outing came to a screeching halt. Why? Because their next shot took a backseat to a battle of the birds that was taking place right in front of them. A baldie had set its eyes on a slow-flying seagull, and it was a mid-air race for life and death.
Bald eagles have some of the sharpest talons of all predatory birds, and the one in this video put its talons to work once it successfully tracked down the seagull. When the bald eagle crashed the smaller bird down to the ground and sank its claws into the wings of its prey, it was game over. The golfers then got to watch the bald eagle gather its dinner and fly off to set the table elsewhere.

How cool is that?
Well, obviously not for the seagull. That whole situation sucked for the seagull. But seeing a bald eagle in action like that is uncommon, and not only did these golfers get to see it with their own eyes… they captured it on video for the rest of us to enjoy.
