Koe Wetzel Confirms New Studio Record Is In The Works, Debuts New Song, “Surrounded”

Koe Wetzel is cooking up some new tunes.

Does this man ever stop? He just announced his Live from the Damn Near Normal Tour live record, is preparing to become a father, and has been in the studio working on new music.

Wetzel has kicked off 2025 with a bang. After announcing that he’s expecting to become a father this year, he teased fans that he was back in the studio working on some new music. This notion reminded fans that Koe still owes us a “full-blown” country record. After years of leaning into the rock and roll side of his sound while still throwing in some country twang, Koe told fans that when he turned 30, he would give us a record with more of the ’90s-inspired sound.

And while Koe clarified to the Whiskey Riff Raff podcast that his promise did not mean the year 30, but sometime in his 30s, he still wants to make the album and is inspired to do so because of his mom’s love for classic country.

“And I meant it, I am gonna put out a country record, but it’s not, I mean, I didn’t mean literally the day I turned 30 I was gonna put it out.

So everybody’s like all pissed off, they’re like, ‘Oh, he’s fake, he tells lies to everybody, you know. He said he was gonna put one out when he was 30, it’s been like 38 days’ or some sh*t. It is happening, and sh*t it might be honestly when I’m 31, but whatever. As long as it’s around that time.”

So, could the year that Koe becomes a father be the year that we get said county record? While the jury is still out on that, we can confirm that whatever Koe is cooking up in the studio is going to be heaters.

Last night, Koe Wetzel performed at Audacy’s Totally Private show at Nashville’s Hard Rock Cafe.

“I’ve been under the weather the last few days, so if I should like sh*t, it ain’t gonna be any different than any other night, so… We are excited to be here, so thank y’all for coming out and listening to some Texas music…”

Koe tells the crowd before disclosing exciting information about why he is in Nashville.

“We are back in Nashville this week recording a new record, so we are going to play y’all some new music tonight. Maybe one or two…”

Koe shared a new song during his set: “Surrounded.” The convict-on-the-run-inspired track highlights the double meaning of being “Surrounded” physically and mentally. It appears as though Wetzel feels like a convict in his own home, heartbroken about a relationship that has ended, yet he can’t get the thoughts of this woman out of his mind when he’s near the bottle.

“I can’t run out, I can’t fight it
I can’t think ’cause my head’s so clouded
Every morning, every night is
All alone but the room feels crowded
Should’ve took all the mirrors you left
Cause I’m drunk and I can’t be around it
Hands up, we’ve got this house surrounded
And there’s nothing I can do about it.”

This track does not give the “full-blown” country sound that fans hoped for with new music. But it sounds like a track that still fits the 9 Lives era, building off Wetzel’s vulnerability on that project.

This is a strong preview of what’s in store for Wetzel’s next record, and I can’t wait to hear more. Keep ’em coming.
