Megan Moroney Performs Gut-Wrenching “Heaven By Noon” Live For The First Time Ever: “My Uncle Died On 9/11, So I Thought About My Aunt Writing This Song”

I’m actually not okay.

This week, Country Radio Seminar (CRS) is happening in Nashville, which is an industry-wide event that brings together radio people, the music labels and tons of artists, across several days to perform new music, talk with media, share plans for the year, etc…

And since most artists essentially stop touring before the holidays and pick it back up in the spring, for some, CRS can be an opportunity step on stage for the first time in a few months, and if we’re lucky, share new material.

Eric Church debuted a powerful new song called “Johnny,” and Miss Megan Moroney also played one of her deep cuts for the first time for a live audience called “Heaven By Noon,” which was featured on her 2024 sophomore album, Am I Okay?

It’s an emotional ballad about the loss of a loved one written from a very personal place, and in speaking about the song with Today’s Country Radio with Kelleigh Bannen on Apple Music Country last year, Megan revealed that she lost her uncle during the 9/11 terrorist attack:

“A lot of people don’t know this, but my uncle died on 9/11, so I thought about my aunt when I was writing that song because the last thing they talked about was an oil change. And that’s probably not what she would’ve wanted to say to him if she knew it was going to be the last time.”

Written with Jessie Jo Dillon and Matt Jenkins, Megan managed to tap into some of her aunt’s feelings on losing her husband in such a sudden and tragic way, though obviously the emotions and sentiment can apply to anyone who was lost a loved one close to them.

She appeared at CRS with just her guitar, telling the audience it was the first time she’d played it live, and you can definitely hear her voice crack a few times as she held back emotions to get through it. I can only imagine how hard it was for her to not only write, but play for people in a big crowd, so I don’t know how often she’ll have it on her set list, but it’s clearly a moving song and probably one of her best in terms of the depth and gravity it holds:

“Today, I get to play a song for y’all that I’ve never played live before. It’s off my last album ‘Am I Okay?’ and it’s called ‘Heaven By Noon.'”

Check it out, you’ll be glad you did:
