Please don’t be running my heart through the rumor mill…

In May 2019, the Red Dirt scene fell apart when the Oklahoma-based band, the  Turnpike Troubadours, announced they were taking an indefinite break from touring and making new music. When announcing their hiatus, they noted that they would not perform together again “until a time we feel that everyone is of strong mind, body, and spirit.”

While three years without Turnpike and over 6 years without new music from the band felt like a lifetime, in 2022, the boys officially hit the stage again, quickly followed by fans’ requests to create a new record. As and you shall receive because, in the summer of 2023, we got A Cat In The Rain, a 10-track story produced with Shooter Jennings.

Since then, the boys have kept their feet on the ground running, constantly performing nationwide and, most recently, teaming up with another legendary Red Dirt group, Cross Canadian Ragweed, for stadium shows in Stillwater, Oklahoma, and Waco, Texas. While The Boys From Oklahoma shows celebrate the reunion of Cross Canadian Ragweed, Turnpike fans are flocking to buy tickets as well because it’s a beyond-stacked lineup for both the original event and the Texas Encore.

However, those two mega-events are now not the only exciting news coming from Turnpike.

According to a Reddit thread, Turnpike is sharing with crowds at recent shows that a record has been in the works, most recently sharing with the San Antonio Rodeo that it’s completed and coming “soon.”

The initial thread was posted at the end of 2024, shortly after Turnpike played at the iconic Billy Bob’s Texas in Fort Worth:

“Heard rumors from recent concerts Turnpike is releasing a new album this year. Can anyone else confirm?”

One user at the show confirmed that they spoke on it briefly during their setlist.

“Evan said they’d have a new one in 2025 at the Billy Bob’s Friday night show. Can’t wait!”

The thread could have honestly stopped there, and I’d be happier than a pig in sh*t with the promise of a new record this year. However, an attendee during their performance at the San Antonio Rodeo shared that Evan Felker shared some more information about the record with the crowd, noting that it’s complete.

“Announced tonight at the San Antonio Rodeo that the album was completed a few weeks ago and is coming soon.”

After some more digging across social media platforms, a few Twitter accounts also confirmed that they heard the same news as well:

2025 has already been off to a stellar start for country music, with Cody Jinks promising us a record, two Muscadine Bloodline records on the way with one release date already announced, new Jon Pardi, and new Charley Crockett. Adding the Turnpike Troubadours to that list might make this one of the best years country music has seen in a hot minute…

Only time will tell for an official announcement to come…

If you want to see Turnpike this year (and let’s be honest, who doesn’t?), head over to Vivid Seats to grab some tickets. They’re the only platform that gives you free tickets just for going to concerts, which is a pretty great deal.

Fire up a few tracks off A Cat In The Rain while you’re here.
