“Please Please Please,” but make it country.
Today, Sabrina Carpenter released a countryfied version of her hit song “Please Please Please” with the legendary country queen herself, Mrs. Dolly Parton. It’s featured on the deluxe addition of Sabrina’s Short n’ Sweet album that was also released today.
I’m sure you’ve heard the original somewhere lately, because I feel like it’s played constantly, and Sabrina has become an international pop sensation who is massively popular in mainstream music.
“Please Please Please” was written by Sabrina along with producer Jack Antonoff and Amy Allen (who wrote on Koe Wetzel’s most recent album, 9 Lives). The song became her first #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and also topped the charts in Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, Norway, and the United Kingdom.
Sabrina rightfully won Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Pop Vocal Album at the Grammy Awards on a couple weeks ago for it, and she wanted to release the deluxe addition as a “thank you” to fans for helping her make the record so successful.
In a post on Instagram, Sabrina says she’s “honored” to have one of her biggest idols on a song that means so much:
“Dolly and me singing in a pickup truck!!!!!! I am so honored to have one of my biggest idols on a song that means so much to me. ‘Short n’ Sweet’ deluxe is out now! Go watch and listen!!!! Love you forever Dolly.”
It’s definitely got a little more twang to it, with Dolly and the production itself, and they changed some of the lyrics, notably the “I beg you, don’t embarrass me motherf*****” part of the song to a line that goes “I beg you, don’t embarrass me like the others.”
While the original is quite fun to belt out, I can’t lie, I actually think this new version of that line fits the song better in a lot of ways.
Once again, this version of “Please Please Please” got the full music video treatment, which finds Dolly and Sabrina driving down the road in a vintage truck, looking absolutely stunning… but they’ve got a mission they’re on too. In the original video, Sabrina’s ex-boyfriend Barry Keoghan (the less hot one from the crazy movie Saltburn, if you saw that), but this time, well, let’s just say it didn’t end so well for him…
They went full on Dixie Chicks in “Goodbye Earl,” and it’s pretty cheeky and fun, like everything Sabrina does.
I’m actually a pretty big fan of Sabrina, even though I don’t listen to a lot of modern pop music, and I really loved Short n’ Sweet as an album. It’s cool to see Dolly working with the next generation of stars, and it’s endearing to see how much Dolly means to Sabrina that she would want to rework this mega hit to have Dolly on.
And I stand by the theory that Dolly doesn’t sleep… this women does not stop, and that’s why she’s an icon.

And the original video for reference, in case you need to see how this all plays out… would HATE to be Barry Keoghan today, not gonna lie…
