X Is Divided Over A Morgan Wallen Super Bowl Halftime Show… That Isn’t Even Happening

I think we’re getting a little ahead of ourselves here…

Last night, rapper Kendrick Lamar headlined the Super Bowl LIX halftime show at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, where the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22.

It was honestly a pretty boring game, and the Eagles won handily, but there was much discussion about the halftime show, as there usually is, and people putting in their two cents about whether they liked it or not. Like I’ve said before, I think it comes down to whether you like the artist performing or not… if you don’t like rap, you probably won’t love it, and that goes for any other genre too.

Unless we can get Prince or Michael Jackson to come back in some other form, which is clearly not happening, I don’t think there will ever be another universally beloved halftime show again…

While I hardly know any of Kenrick Lamar’s music, I liked his performance and thought it was solid. I was watching with friends who love him, so they kind of explained some of his lore, so to speak, and I’m obsessed with his commitment to hate on Drake… and also those incredible jeans he wore. I couldn’t stop staring at them.

Like we often see on social media, Kendrick’s performance sparked debate about who should headline next year’s Super Bowl halftime show… and Morgan Wallen was obviously top of mind for many people, and was the overwhelming name I kept seeing in terms of names of current artists who could be a real option. So much so, that his name is currently trending on X.

Plenty of fans seem to think he’d do a great job, and has enough mass, commercial appeal outside of country to be able to please a huge demographic of people. Many others staunchly disagreed, and people are arguing over there as if the announcement has already been made?

Like, let Kendrick have his moment people… we’re still less than 24 hours out from his performance:

Of course, Morgan is a pretty polarizing figure, so this is a hot topic indeed:

With the country genre being as commercially popular and mainstream as it has been in decades, I do think it’s time for a country halftime show and Morgan is the obvious choice. I think he actually could be a real possibility next year, though I imagine we’d see others join him onstage, like Post Malone, who would also make a ton of sense both as a collab with Morgan or even solo.

But if this discussion, that’s basically being had as if he is the one for the job whether people like it or not isn’t proof enough for the NFL, I don’t know what is… but they have a history of making poor decisions, so I’m not so sure they’ll listen this time, either. An ideal situation would be to have Nashville host the Super Bowl when its brand new stadium is finished (estimated for completion sometime in 2027). Unfortunately, since the next 3 have already been chosen, the earliest that would be is 2029. With the next 3 locations in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Atlanta… I just don’t think that country is on the horizon, no matter how popular is it right now.
