Someone show this to Randy Travis.
Everyone has a friend that would ride or die for them and a friend that you trust with your life. Sometimes, the love you have for these friends is stronger than the love you have for family. This ties perfectly into the phrase that sometimes family isn’t those you share blood with but rather a bond like this.
One North Carolina woman is highlighting her husband’s best friend, who shares a bond this strong. The husband’s friend Lamar, and he has a bromance like no other. Lamar called his friend, Jake, after he came out of his third surgery of the week, and while he was not physically there for him, he was there in a very supportive way when the nurses came up to run some more tests on him.
“Get you a ‘Lamar.’ You just can’t have my husband’s.
This was after he came out of his 3rd surgery in a week. He just got extubated and brought back to his room and they were trying to get more labs on him after he had already been stuck so many times.
Lamar happened to call to check on him at this time and Jake needed a distraction from all the needles and said, ‘Lamar, they trying to stick me again. Sing me a song to take my mind off of all of this.’ Without hesitation, and all the doctors, nurses, and lab techs in the room, Lamar came in clutch and serenaded us all with some Randy Travis.”
With the phone on the hospital bed pillow, Lamar sings the lyrics of Randy Travis’ heartfelt song “Deeper Than The Holler.”
As Lamar sings the tender love song’s lyrics, Jake mouths along with him, and you can see that the song is soothing to him at that moment. As Jake’s wife films this moment it sounds like she’s almost crying as she films this sweet moment.
At the end of the chorus, Jake sings the last line back to Lamar. Lamar laughs a little bit in the background, seemingly pleased that his Randy Travis cover was what his buddy needed to hear during this challenging time.
That’s not a friend. That’s a brother.
