There’s another up and coming artist from Kentucky that needs to be on your radar, and his name is Luke Trimble.
Hailing Paintsville, Kentucky, the unassuming country music hot bed that also produced superstars Tyler Childers and Chris Stapleton, Trimble has taken a great deal of inspiration from the long line of incredible artists that have called Eastern Kentucky and the greater Appalachian region home before him.
A talented songwriter whose descriptive lyricism and unique vocals have garnered significant regional attention, Trimble’s song content often delves into relationships, his home state’s natural beauty, and the highs and lows of life in Appalachia. Trimble began releasing music in October 2022 with his debut single “Pike County Queen,” a love song set in Eastern Kentucky that has racked up well over half a million streams on Spotify, and he’s been off and running ever since.
“Pike County Queen” was soon followed by four more tracks to make Trimble’s Nothing to Lose EP in November 2022, but while the young artists continued to hone his craft behind the scenes, his catalog remained stagnant until fairly recently. Beginning with the release of “Finer Things” back in July, Trimble released three singles over the second half of 2024 before announcing plans for his debut album Headed Out the Holler just before Christmas.
Hitting streaming platforms in its entirety on January 10, it’s safe to say that he’s on to something special here. An exceptionally strong debut record, Headed Out the Holler features 10 thoughtfully penned tracks that shed a light on life in Eastern Kentucky through Trimble’s point of view, yet convey sentiments relatable to country music fans everywhere.
When Trimble took to Instagram to announce his debut record last month, he provided some additional context as to how the record came to fruition:
“This collection of songs reflects the past few years of my journey through life and music. There’s been so much work put into this record and I can’t wait to share it with you all. I want to give a special thanks to my friends who have taken the time in the past few years to put life into these songs. Through countless hours of practice and dedication I am more than proud to share the fruits of our labor. Thanks as well to Brennen Meek at Mountain Arts Center Studios for being the best producer we could have asked to work with.”
I could continue to ramble on about Luke Trimble and why everyone needs to give him a listen, but the proof is in the music, so go ahead and dive in to experience it yourself.
Here’s a few early favorites from Luke Trimble’s debut record Headed Out the Holler:
“Black Gold”
“Finer Things”
“Fine Wine”
What a debut record from Luke Trimble.
Trimble frequently plays shows across his home state, but hopefully now that his debut record is out in the world and garnering feedback, he and his band will be hitting the road a bit harder in 2025, because I am sure these songs are even better live.
In the meantime, though, keep on streaming Headed Out the Holler, and be on the lookout for more music in the future from another one of Eastern Kentucky’s finest.
