So… who exactly asked for this?
Leave to the Kardashians to take a Christmas song that already strangely sexualizes Santa Claus and somehow make it even more unhinged. While all of us were just trying to enjoy the weekend before Christmas, Kim Kardashian was getting ready to drop what is quite possibly the weirdest song and music video combo the world has ever seen.
Everyone has listened to Eartha Kitt’s 1953 hit “Santa Baby,” right? It’s one of those Christmas songs that you hear in the background and then, as you slowly digest more and more of the lyrics, you say, “Wait a second… what did she just say?” It certainly has some very forward messaging – especially for a song from the 1950’s.
For some reason, media personality/socialite/influencer/actress/lawyer/reality TV star Kim Kardashian thought the world needed a version of the song sang by her. So she got in the studio with Travis Barker (Blink 182’s drummer) to craft a cover and collaborated with Nadia Lee Cohen and Charlie Denis to bring to life a deranged music video to go along with it.
I legitimately don’t know how to explain the music video. In what looks to be one take shot all throughout a house, Kim Kardashian is crawling on the floor with various, questionable, what-the-hell-is-happening scenes playing out all throughout. There’s even a cameo from a beloved Christmas figure, but I won’t ruin the surprise.
Go ahead and take a look (and be horrified):
HOLY SH*T IT’S MACAULAY CULKIN.
Go ahead and try watching the Home Alone franchise the same way after this. I’ve got so many questions. Did that all come to Kim in a fever dream? Did someone pitch the idea of putting out a Christmas cover to Kim? How much was Macaulay Culkin paid for his short–but-nightmare-worthy cameo at the end?
Something tells me this isn’t going to turn into one of those Christmas classics that you come back and listen to year after year. The music video certainly won’t be a part of my holiday tradition, and why do I feel confident and comfortable saying that?
All of the internet is quickly rushing to the reply section of Kim’s post to let her know that her new “Santa Baby” cover and music video that came along with it weren’t exactly getting them into the Christmas spirit:
This literally seems like a nightmare

Imagine being a kid growing up loving Home Alone 1 & 2, once you become of age finding out your mom crawled around in a thong simulating she’s about to get nasty with Santa who is the actor of your favorite childhood movie.
And you thought your mom was a lawyer the whole time.

A number of people took a shot at an interpretation of the unsettling music music, and everyone pretty much had the same feeling… dark and demonic.
First reaction: What the actual ef?
Thoughtful reaction: this shows all the messed up parts of society that gets hidden but still exists. Even during the holidays that are supposed to be a hopeful time of year. So while sickening, it tells a fraction of truth that we all hope…

My take. Kim is Hollywood if Hollywood could be embodied in a person. That’s why she looks like Marilyn Monroe, and she’s all drugged out, and there’s destruction all around her. It’s her theatrical version about what’s going on in Hollywood right now. It’s very sad. This is her…

Perhaps the girl crawling through that depraved landscape is looking for a way out. She believes she found salvation with Santa only to discover he’s the one filming.
Therefore she’s stuck in an endless cycle of depravity without escape – a metaphor for reality today.
Or…

What do you think… is it a thoughtful commentary on the destructive, demonic nature of the Hollywood machine? A devilish mockery of Christmas? Or just weird sh*t for the sake of doing weird sh*t and calling it “art”?
On second thought…. nobody cares…
