The spoiler alert back in August was very much warranted.
Yellowstone’s flagship series has now officially come to an end, and many diehard fans are upset with how it all wrapped up. Taylor Sheridan did his best to stick the landing (having Elsa Dutton narration was a nice touch), but he evidently didn’t do enough. Some are saying that Yellowstone’s fifth and final season was worse than Game of Throne’s highly criticized swan song.
And I hate to be this type of person, but Whiskey Riff tried to warn you all (you could have saved a lot of time) a couple of months ago. We wrote up a story back in August about a Montana homeowner who leaked the ending to the western drama after the show’s crew was rude to them and they shot in their neighborhood for long hours. Obviously, we couldn’t confirm or deny if what they revealed on Reddit was true… until now.
*SPOILERS AHEAD*
The Reddit user got into the specifics and details in her lengthy post (the set using stadium lights late into the night, taking over the neighborhood, being difficult with residents, etc.), which you can read at this link if you feel so inclined. Because they were upset about how the community was treated, they posted this to the online discussion board spoiling the ending of the show:
“I talked to a colleague this morning who, for some inexplicable reason, was an extra in this ‘secret scene’ last night, as well as a neighbor who looks down over the house, and both of them spilled the beans on what happened after hearing about our baby, my spouse, and our friends.
Beth, Costner’s delusional, insane daughter, is carried out on a stretcher and loaded into the ambulance. They think she was shot. There had been some big fight scene they’d filmed in the house the past few days between her, her brother (the lawyer son – literally the only sympathetic character and the only one even remotely capable of acting), and her mass-murdering, sociopath of a husband.
Who, by the way, I have met and is also a massive ass***e in real life, so probably not a real stretch to play Rip. Jamie, the lawyer, is probably dead inside and who knows about Rip. I’d like him dead too.”
For those of you who tuned into the finale of Yellowstone, that description is pretty much spot on. Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley) trade violent blows inside the home, and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) comes flying in to save the day. But before Rip can turn the lights out on Jamie, Beth insists that she finishes the job.
The Reddit user nailed it.
To be fair though, it wasn’t all that hard to predict… you knew it was gonna come to blows with Jamie and Beth in one way or another.
Regardless, they were not taking of the blame for releasing the leak back in August. In their eyes, this spoiler rested on the shoulders of Yellowstone and its crew for not treating people in the area they were filming in with more respect:
“If that was the big, ‘secret’ finale/fight, Yellowstone, your crew’s sh*tty conduct towards the neighbors the past few days and over the summer, and even two years ago when you filmed at the house, as well as your condescending attitude towards Montanans in Missoula, the Flathead, and the Bitterroot earned you no friends and spoiled it. No one would have bothered sharing this ‘secret scene’ had you treated everyone with some modicum of respect. You didn’t. This is the outcome.”
It was, in fact, the outcome.
