Man, that was a rough one…
I’m a big fan of Bill Burr. He’s one of the best stand up comedians in the business, and his whole angry dad/cynical sports fan persona falls right in line with me as a father of two under 4, who spends way too many hours every week blogging about sh*t like this.
And I got pretty pumped when I saw that he was tapped to host SNL the week after the election. But then Donald Trump won in a landslide victory over Kamala Harris, and it was… pretty awkward.
I’m sure everybody at SNL had to take a mental health day on Wednesday, but even Bill seemed noticeably disappointed (not a surprise, he admittedly leans pretty liberal), and even kicked it off saying he wouldn’t talk about it, before going off on some random story about catching the flu.
Not exactly throwing heaters out of the gate…
But then he got to the good stuff and it still was… a little awkward.
“Alright ladies, you’re 0-2 against this guy, but you learn more form your losses than your wins so let’s get into the game tape. Ladies enough with the pant suit. It’s not working. Stop trying to have respect for yourselves. You don’t win the office on policy, you know? You gotta whore it up a little. I’m not saying go full Hooters, but find the happy medium between Applebee’s and your dad didn’t stick around.
You all know how to get a free drink, Ok? And I know a lot of ugly women, feminists I mean, don’t want to hear this message, but just tease him a little bit. Make a farmer feel like he’s got a shot. Swing a state over a little bit.”

Not your best work Bill…
Sounds like you phoned it in to me. And the irony here is that there were SO many things you could point to, pretty comedic reasons for why she actually lost… bad policy, bad campaign strategy, hiring that lying cornball Tim Walz as your VP, spending a $100,000 to build a Call Her Daddy set because you didn’t want to actually fly to her studio… the list goes on. And you landed on pant suits? That’s it? Bill still managed to offend by calling feminists ugly, but such a missed opportunity. I mean, they put it on a tee for you Bill and you didn’t want to swing. Comedy can serve as mechanism to expose things, a way to tell the truth with humor, not put up the shield.
And nothing good on Trump either who is obviously a big, boisterous personality… lotta material there. And then to wrap it up with Shaq doing commercials like that’s funny? Shaq likes easy money, a lot of celebrities do… I’m not mad at him.
And the comments mirror my own thoughts pretty heavily… I like Burr a lot, but man, he mailed it in.
