Seems like the attempts from Zach’s team to bury this song didn’t work too well…
By now you’ve probably heard “Smallest Man,” the Zach Bryan diss track that was released by Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy and his BFFs podcast co-host Josh Richards.
It all started when Zach announced via Instagram story that he had split up from his girlfriend, Barstool Sports personality Brianna Chickenfry. The two had been dating for over a year, and Bri had even gone on tour with Zach as he traveled the country for his Quittin’ Time tour.
The announcement that the two had broken up wasn’t necessarily surprising, after screenshots began circulating the day before of Zach’s profile on celebrity dating app Raya. But Brianna released a tearful video saying that she was “blindsided” by Zach going public with the breakup, and that she was hoping to keep it private for a while to process everything.
And it’s only gotten messier from there.
You got the feeling that things were going to get ugly when Portnoy began bashing Zach pretty much immediately after the breakup. If you know anything about Dave Portnoy and his company, you know that he’s not one to mince words or back down from a fight (and neither are we, for the record…just throwing that out there for anybody that needs to hear it) so he quickly began expressing his hate for the country singer:
“I was never a liker. How do you like that? I was never a liker…
I think he’s a fraud. Every time I met him I was not comfortable with him. Certain guys where you’re like, ‘Ok I kinda like this guy, he’s a gives good vibes guy.’ This guy never gave that vibe to me.”
He also gave us a glimpse into who Zach is when he revealed the singer had previously banned him from a concert over a joke the notoriously outspoken Portnoy had made months earlier:
“Apparently, Zach went back, like, how many months was it? It had to be six months… we at one time on BFFs had a discussion where Bri just got a new boyfriend, and we’re like, ‘Whoa, that’s like your third boyfriend in barely a couple months.’
I’m like, ‘You’re a revolving door of boyfriends lately. He saw that, flipped… six months prior, and banned us from going to the concert. Bri was like, ‘It’s the first, biggest fight we’ve been in.’ I’m like this is what we do, like we joke, like what are you mad about?”
Well things only escalated from there, when Portnoy and Richards decided to support their podcast co-host Brianna by dropping a diss track called “Smallest Man.” And they didn’t hold anything back:
“If Zach is awake I know that he’s been drinkin’
Head looks like a Lego, hair like Homer Simpson
This is for the women that you cheated and neglected
Music is infectious, your penis is infected
You gave out STDs and then you start to spiral
Zach, that’s not what we mean by going viral”
And there was also a portion at the end of the song where they parodied Zach’s song “28.”
“How lucky is Bri to be free of ZB and his STDs”
The song was ultimately taken down after copyright claims from Zach’s label, Warner Music Group. And though they initially thought it was the outro portion of the song that was causing problems, it turns out Richards had actually signed a deal with Warner himself a few years ago – so they weren’t able to re-release the song.
But despite the label’s efforts to bury “Smallest Man” for whatever their reasoning really is, it didn’t seem to work. The song is still insanely viral on social media – and even made an appearance at a college football game today.
Barstool was hosting their live college football gameday show at Ole Miss today as the Rebels take on the Georgia Bulldogs. And of course, Portnoy took the opportunity to once again talk shit about Zach Bryan:
“My Rhoback dawg of the week is that fucking miserable piece of shit scumbag Zach Bryan. If you have his music on your phone please fucking delete it. The guy is a piece of shit and you should never have anything to do with it. He’s the worst.”
And as he broke out into a verse of “Smallest Man,” the crowd quickly joined in – so they’ve clearly been listening to the song:

It’s definitely a viral hit.
Of course Brianna dug much more into their relationship during this week’s episode of BFFs, where she claimed that Zach offered her $12 MILLION to sign a non-disclosure agreement when they broke up. And in one of the more ridiculous stories from the show, she also claimed that Zach once got mad at her for singing a Morgan Wallen song in their house, and wouldn’t let her listen to Zach’s “good friend” Noah Kahan’s music.
Absolutely wild. No wonder “Smallest Man” went so hard.
