This has been a long time coming.
Flatland Cavalry has been throwing down on the new music they have been giving to fans recently, and this single is no exception. But, unlike “Three Car Garage,” this new track is not so new to their fans.
Since announcing their forthcoming ten-year anniversary album, Flatland Forever, the West Texas group has noted that the album will include a collection of their favorite songs over the past decade, including some new songs and unreleased recordings. When that statement was made, many fans commented, hoping this meant that “Lubbock” was finally going to be released, and their wishes were soon granted.
“5 years ago, we released an acoustic video on YouTube in celebration of the Texas Tech basketball team making it to the NCAA Championship Game. Since that day, y’all have blown up our comments, begging for the song to be released.
Earlier this year, we went back to our stomping grounds, Amusement Park Studio, and recorded this song to tape.”
“Lubbock” is the ultimate ode to the band’s roots and the West Texas college town that helped found the band. Lead singer Cleto Cordero and drummer Jason Albers met on campus while they were students at Texas Tech University. The song, penned after the two were no longer students, is an ode to what makes campus and the city of Lubbock such a special place.
Frontman Cleto Cordero says:
“This song I wrote after living in Lubbock for a season of my life. I really kind of adopted it as a new hometown. I’m just enamored by the music history there and the people and the kindness they have in their hearts and the love they have for the community.
I’ve been sitting on it for a while, because it never really made sense to put it on any of these other projects, but finally it has a place to live now. It’s one of my favorite songs and moments we’ve ever captured on tape.”
Since the band released the video on YouTube in 2019, fans have hoped and wished that it would appear on each album, but Flatland knew what they were doing, saving this one for a more special release.
“Lubbock” is a fan favorite for a reason, and hearing the lyrics with a full band production breathes new life into the song without getting rid of the nostalgic feeling that made fans fall in love with the single to begin with.

This was well worth the wait… fire it up.
If you want to catch Flatland Cavalry on the road, they will be in Lubbock for two nights next month. I can only imagine how electric singing “Lubbock” in Lubbock, Texas, will be.
