Parents, let this be a lesson to always read the fine print on the permission slip.
Remember field trips? There was nothing better than going to bed the night before a big field trip, knowing that you and your classmates were going to pile into a bus and go on some sort of adventure the next day. Box lunch or packed lunch? Either option was fine.
All that really mattered was the excitement that the day trip brought to the average school day.
The kiddos in this video likely woke up excited as ever knowing that they got to visit the Choctafaula ranch in Auburn, Alabama. The farm offers up “fun for the whole family,” and even features a safari that visitors can catch a wagon ride through for the low price of $12.
Their website describes their safari wagon ride as:
“Choctafaula’s main attraction is a guided wagon ride through our 460 acre ranch. With over 200 different animals on display, there’s plenty of animals to see and feed!”
I’m sure this Alabama school got some sort of group discount when they decided to take students to the Choctafaula Ranch. They likely knew they were getting a break on the price, but I can practically guarantee that they never expected one of their students to become endangered while on the trip.
According to the person that posted the now viral clip (viewed over 16 million times on TikTok), the young student got off the wagon to feed the ostrich and at one point tripped and fell. That apparently triggered the ostrich’s chasing instinct, which led to this scary video of the kid running from and then getting curb-stomped by the aggressive ostrich.
One of the rules that’s featured on the Choctafaula Ranch website states that guests should “never enter any animal enclosure or fence.” However, that rule gets a little fuzzy when guests enter into an enclosure while on the wagon ride. I’m sure they’re also told the typical “keep your hands and feet inside the vehicle at all times,” and I’m assuming this kid broke that rule.
Then paid the price:

Fortunately, the student was able to regain his footing at some point and make it back to the safety of the wagon. Not before he took a mean shot to the head, but you have to applaud the kid’s toughness (and survival instincts). He high-tailed it back to the wagon – that at one point was driving away from him – and climbed back aboard. Once he was on, he pushed his hair back as if to say, “That was a close one.”
Those that stumbled upon the viral video online had mixed reactions in the comment section. Some were fine cracking jokes at the expense of the kid, while others were quick to point out how dangerous ostriches can be, and how lucky the kid was to come away from the scary encounter virtually unharmed:
“That Ostrich said ‘Get yo a** back on that trailer!'”
“Not them still driving away as he’s fighting for his life.”
“People don’t understand that their stomps are known to kill lions!”
“That head stomp from big bird was crazy.”
“They will forever remember this field trip.”
Lesson learned.
