Oklahoma, Arkansas, Alabama, and Texas —Sturgill Simpson and the boys are in the South for week 4 of the Why Not? Tour.
Simpson and his team have been creating a digital scrapbook with these weekly tour recaps, which not only lets fans experience a little bit of the magic at shows that aren’t near their hometown but also lets fans look back on the concerts, reliving parts of the epic show.
On this week’s recap, Sturgill Simpson opens the video playing to the sold-out crowd in Oklahoma City. The line to get into the view shows that the folks of Oklahoma know how monumental this tour is. Simpson made sure to put on one helluva show, tipping his hat to the Okies with a stellar cover of Don Williams’ “Tulsa Time.”
Moving on to the next stop, they hit The Walmart Amp in Rogers, Arkansas. Simpson quickly learned not to mess with Arkansas fans, as he got booed big time after taunting the Arkansas crowd about John Calipari and Kentucky basketball.
“Don’t be mad. Don’t be mad. You had your chance, now Calipari is gone. Now get ready to get that ass whooped. You know what’s coming. I’m just saying. Mark Pope ain’t f***ing around, okay? Not to mix business with politics.”

The crowd was quick to call the hogs after that, but even though they were not fans of Stu’s Kentucky pride, that did not stop them from jamming out while he was on stage.
After Arkansas, they rolled to Alabama, where the band visited the NASA gift shop, picking up some sick space suits to wear on stage later that evening. They walked out to The Space Odyssey’s opening theme song, which drove home when they were in NASA country. I honestly think they should consider sporting these more often on stage. They look so clean, all dressed in the same thing, and the jumpsuits are straight-up sick.
To round out week 4 of touring, they headed to Austin City Limits for the festival’s second week. Zilker Park was packed as he took the stage for his headlining set, shredding like no other and leaving audience members speechless.
Keep these recaps coming, Stu. They are pure gold.
