Two singles and a record in the same week. How lucky are we?

On Monday, Wyatt Flores released what many thought would be the final single before he dropped his debut record this Friday, but Flores hit fans with another surprise.

Shortly after we reported on the stellar track “Little Town,” Flores told fans that he was also going to release the title track off the record ahead of its release. Talk about a way to do a release week; he is hitting fans every other day with something new. And we are loving it.

Wyatt Flores leans into his Red Dirt Oklahoma roots, “Welcome To The Plains,” turning up the twang and adding more fiddle as he sings about his homeland. When Flores announced this record, he noted that he would be embracing the sound of his home state unlike ever before, and this song flawlessly embodies that.

“My name is Wyatt Flores. I was born and raised on the Oklahoma Plains and you’re gonna feel that in my music. The songs I write are stories from my life and my home.”

The Oklahoma plains have a rich history, and you can feel that seep into Flores’ lyrics in this single. “Welcome To The Plains” is a rockin’ way to kick off the record, setting the tone for what listeners will hear as he sings about the place that raised him.

The lyrics detail how the land must have looked before settlers touched it and how it is now. The rough and rugged parts of the terrain, the small town feel, and the people who have touched him throughout his life.

“Now it’s red dirt tears and broken mirrors
And a little trailer park just south of here
End of the world is getting near but I still feel the same
And it’s red dirt poor and wanting more
Mr. Weatherman knocking at my door
Where dreams go drying up like rain
Welcome to the plains…”

Welcome To The Plains week has been rolling along so far, and I can’t wait to hear the remainder of the album on Friday.

Fire it up.
