Probably the most unique senior week story I’ve ever heard.
Yesterday, Miranda Lambert is a guest on The Kelly Clarkson Show, where she of course talked about her new album Postcards From Texas, and she told Kelly about growing up East Texas with two parents who were private investigators.
She actually went undercover with them quite often and has told some great stories about it, but this one is pretty wild too…
Miranda recalled her senior week experience going to Cancún, which sounds like a really fun time, but she was actually there with her mom on a job. Someone’s dad had hired her mom to watch and make sure his daughter didn’t go too off the rails on her trip, so she was thrown in with this group of friends she didn’t know at all:
“One of the memorable ones was going to Cancun for senior trip. My mom’s like, ‘We’re going to Cancun for senior trip.’ And I was like, ‘Just me and you? Like, that’s my senior trip? Yay…’
But we had to go with this group of kids because one the dads had hired mom to make sure his daughter was gonna stay on the rails on her senior trip. I was like, ‘How am I gonna make friends with these girls I don’t even know?’
Just randomly hanging around… My mom’s like, ‘You’ll figure it out.'”
But of course, in typical Miranda fashion, she had a wildcard up her sleeve, so to speak, and like always, used music as a magical tool to win them all over.
As soon as she pulled out her guitar on the bus ride to the hotel, the guys loved hearing her play some Charlie Robison, so obviously the girls warmed up pretty quickly to her too:
“I brought my guitar, is what I did. When you fly into Cancun, they put you on a party bus to take you to the hotel. I broke out my guitar, and I started singing Charlie Robison songs, you know?
And I was like the coolest, ‘cuz all the guys were into it so those girls were like, ‘Oh hey! Who are you?’ And my mom was like, see I told you you’d figure it out.”
Like I said, while an extremely unconventional senior trip, it made for a memorable time and a great story all these years later.
