Not excited to see 45 in the stands, eh?

We’re less than 2 months out from the 2024 election, so candidates are making their rounds and trying to get out there as much as possible leading up to November.

And for GOP candidate and former President Donald Trump, that includes taking in some football.

The Donald is heading to Bryant-Denny Stadium this weekend as the #4 Alabama Crimson Tide take on the #2 Georgia Bulldogs. It’s one of the biggest games of this young college football season, with a possible preview of the SEC championship game and obvious college football playoff implications on the line.

But head coach Kalen DeBoer didn’t sound like he would be giving the former president much thought.

During his press conference today, the first-year Alabama coach was asked what he thought about Trump attending the game, and he managed to give an answer that didn’t include the words “Trump” or “president,” instead referring to the former president as a “celebrity.”

“I’m sure there’s gonna be a lot of celebrity-type people here, people that want to come be a part of what’s happening on game day. It’s gonna be, everyone watching, great to have everyone who wants to come watch be here.

For us, I told the guys this, with GameDay and everything coming here as well, for guys to try to take as much off of their plate other than maybe a few extra interviews towards the end of the week. Just the main thing is that they get prepared to play the best football game that they’ve played this year. I always challenge them to play the best football game that they’ve ever played in their career.

So that’s what matters when it comes down to what we can control. But yeah, it is kinda cool that we have a lot of people who want to come be part of the atmosphere and add to the excitement and energy that the game will bring.”

Hard to blame him for not wanting to spend too much time talking about anything other than the game and his team, but that was some pretty impressive coach speak. Almost sounds like a politician himself. And maybe once he retires DeBoer could run for office…I mean, he wouldn’t be the first football coach from the state of Alabama to end up in politics. Auburn has Tommy Tuberville in the Senate, so maybe they could get an Alabama coach up there too.
