Another pop star making country music.

Or at least wanting a little piece of the (currently very lucrative) pie…

As we’ve seen over the last year or so, many of the world’s most famous musicians have been at least intrigued by country, which has been wildly popular thanks to acts like Morgan Wallen, Zach Bryan Luke Combs, Lainey Wilson and so many more.

It’s having a global moment right now, in a way we really haven’t seen since the ’90s, and that’s why artists like Post Malone, Beyoncé, Lana Del Ray and others have made, or said they’re going to make, country albums and songs.

From Posty’s F-1 Trillion to Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter, which both debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 all-genre albums chart, it’s a growing trend, and in some ways, I’m not mad about it… I liked some of the songs on Beyoncé’s record, and I have really been loving F-1 Trillion, especially the Long Bed extended edition.

And now there’s another pop artist who wants to put out a country song, which is the virally popular Chappell Roan, who you’ve probably seen if you’re online at all and have likely at least heard part of her song “HOT TO GO!”

She’s taking over the pop world in a huge way, and in an extensive interview with Rolling Stone, she revealed that she’s working a new album, the follow-up to her massively successful 2023 debut The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, which will include “a country song”:

“We have a country song. We have a dancy song. We have one that’s really Eighties, and we have one that’s acoustic, and we have one that’s really organic, live-band, Seventies vibe. It’s super weird.”

Color me intrigued… I’ll be on the lookout for that one. Does Chappell Roan listen to George Strait everyday and know all of the classics? I’m willing to bet not, but she’s becoming a big star and has massively popular music, so to hear her take on “country” will certainly be interesting.

Stay tuned…

Acts like Silverada, Josiah and the Bonnevilles and even Kacey Musgraves have covered her songs lately, and I’ll be honest, I really love Kacey’s mashup of Chappell’s “Pink Pony Club” with her song “High Horse” she’s been doing on her current Deeper Well tour:

“HOT TO GO!”
