Silverada Puts A Country Twist On Chappell Roan’s “Good Luck, Babe”

Pop goes country.

Chappell Roan is a name that is taking over the pop world. The self-proclaimed “Midwest Princess” has quickly become one of the biggest names in pop. With her synth beats and lyrics that bash past relationships, her songs are crazy in the best way and addicting to the ears.

It’s so addicting that some country names have decided a few of her songs needed to be spotlighted in a different genre. During a recent show, Silverada laid down a country take of her hit song “Good Luck, Babe.” Personally, this is one of my favorite Chappell Roan songs.

The single calls out a past lover who dabbled in a relationship with another woman before returning to the comfort of a man. Roan sings to this past fling, warning her that she will never find anything as fulfilling as what they had. The bridge of the song is something that I genuinely think about in my sleep and has some of the coldest lyrics in all of music.

“When you wake up next to him in the middle of the nightWith your head in your hands, you’re nothing more than his wifeAnd when you think about me, all of those years agoYou’re standing face to face with ‘I told you so’You know I hate to say, ‘I told you so’You know I hate to say, but, I told you so…”

And the video of Silverada covering this song starts right at the beginning of the bridge, so I was dialed in from the jump. Lead singer Mike Harmier puts grit into the song, which instantly makes it different from the pop cover and adds an extra layer of burn to the delivery tone of the bridge. The steel guitar is the perfect substitute for the synth found in the original song and keeps the signature Silverada flair fans know and love.

The rest of the band joins in on backup vocals as the bridge ends, helping Harmier out with the chorus, and you can tell that they are having a BLAST on stage, messing around with this cover.

I definitely did not expect this from Silverada, and I’m definitely not mad at it.
