More details about the bizarre incident coming out.
Yesterday ahead of the season opener, Miami Dolphins fans were temporarily sent panicking when video began going around of wide receiver Tyreek Hill in handcuffs outside of Hard Rock Stadium.
He was eventually released and ended up playing in the game, catching an 80-yard bomb from quarterback Tua Tagovailoa for a touchdown and promptly celebrating by having one of his teammates pretend to handcuff him.

After the game, Tyreek spoke on his pregame detention:
“I want to be a cop one day. I got a state trooper hat, all that. So I gotta lot of respect for cops. But obviously everybody has bad apples in every situation. So I want to be able to use this platform to figure out a way to flip this and make it a positive on both ends.”

The entire incident apparently stemmed from a minor traffic infraction, but video from bystanders show that it quickly escalated with officers ordering Hill from his car and even threatening to break his window to get him out.
He said, “I’m gonna break that fucking window.” And the other said “as a matter of fact I’m not playing this game, get out of the car” some Hispanic cops in Miami are just as bad as some of those white cops in rural counties. After the wide receiver was out of the car and on the ground, an officer could be heard shouting at Tyreek as he was placed in handcuffs:
“When we tell you to do something, you do it. You understand? You’re a little fucking confused.”

His teammate, Dolphins defensive end Calais Campbell, stopped to help Tyreek, but also ended up in handcuffs before both players were released.
Speaking to the media, Tyreek’s agent Drew Rosenhaus called the incident “mind-boggling” and said he was deeply concerned with how his client was treated.
For their part, the Miami-Dade Police Department has started an investigation into what happened during the chaotic scene, and announced shortly after the incident that one of the officers involved has been placed on administrative duties while they investigate.

Of course there were also plenty of comparisons to Scottie Scheffler’s arrest earlier this year as he was on his way into the PGA Championship, a case that was ultimately dropped after it turned out to be an overreaction by some officers on a power trip. And from everything that’s come out so far, it looks like that might be the same situation here.
