Not afraid to stand up for what’s right.
Of course Brittany Aldean, wife of country star Jason Aldean, set off a firestorm a while back when shared a video of herself putting on makeup with the caption:
“I’d really like to thank my parents for not changing my gender when I went through my tomboy phase. I love this girly life”
Maren Morris then responded to a post from fellow country singer Cassadee Pope by calling Brittany “Insurrection Barbie.”
“It’s so easy to, like, not be a scumbag human? Sell your clip-ons and zip it, insurrection Barbie.”
Brittany then jumped on the comments, responding by calling her “Karen Morris” and launching a new clothing line, Tucker Carlson got involved, Maren trolled Tucker…it was a big thing.
But Brittany didn’t back down from her comments, and has continued to speak out on the issue, especially with the current debate surrounding biological men in women’s sports.
And while banning men from women’s sports shouldn’t really be a controversial position to take, there’s no doubt that Brittany and Jason have taken quite a bit of heat for actually being willing to speak out about it when so many others in country music would rather just stay out of the conversation.
According to Jason though, he has no problem defending his wife – because he knows that she’s right.
During an appearance on The Tucker Carlson show, the country singer discussed the controversy surrounding Brittany’s comments:
“My wife is very outspoken, and she’s very firm in her beliefs. And it’s tough, you’re trying to raise kids…and it’s like, we’re just trying to raise kids in an era where you’re trying to make things normal to me that aren’t normal…
I feel like there’s people that are going to take offense to everything these days, no matter what you say. And obviously she said that and people jumped all over that, but I agree with her.”
Jason explained that an adult making the decision to transition to another gender is one thing, but it’s different when it’s pushed on kids who aren’t able to understand the consequences of such a life-altering decision:
“If as a kid, your parents are already instilling that in you, and allowing you to do those things before you’re of age – you can’t even vote until you’re 18, why should you be able to do that? Or drink a beer until you’re 21, but you can change your gender?
It’s just weird to me. And I think if somebody wants to do that and they’re old enough to make that decision, hey, doesn’t affect my life, whatever. But you can’t try to make that normal to everybody.”
And Jason said that he’s not trying to push his views on anybody, but that he should be free to discuss them just like anybody else:
“I feel like you’re free to talk about it, but don’t be mad when I give my opinion on it too. You can think that’s ok all day long. I’m never going to…
Don’t shove it down my throat and try to make it normal.”
Honestly, it doesn’t seem like he’s saying anything that should be controversial. He has his beliefs, he should be able to express them, and other people can disagree if they want to.
But like he said, it’s 2024 so people are going to be mad no matter what you say…
Jason Aldean survived the 2017 Las Vegas massacre only to have his character assassinated by the media. He’s bigger than ever.
