The duet we NEED.
Over the weekend, Cody Johnson scored his third #1 single at mainstream country radio with “Dirt Cheap,” which peaked at the top of the Mediabase country chart (one of two charts labels use to track their songs performance, along with the Billboard Country Airplay chart).
And in an interview with Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton as he co-hosted the show not long ago, CoJo revealed that he has a new song idea in the works… he wants to cover Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn’s “Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man” with Lainey Wilson.
I mean, I don’t think I can think of a better, more perfect pair and song than that. Lainey is of course a Louisiana native, and at the top of her game right now with a brand new album out called Whirlwind that she just released.
Cody also says that he has plans to go hunting with Lainey’s boyfriend Duck, which is sounds like another great pair and helluva time:
“I’m going duck hunting with her boyfriend Duck [Devlin “Duck” Hodges]. I guess that’s how he got his name, because he’s really into hunting.
I heard Loretta Lynn’s ‘Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man.’ I called Lainey and said we should record that song together, and she agreed. But we haven’t done it yet.”
Well if Miss Lainey is on board, I’m not sure why this hasn’t happened already? Lainey and Cody’s musical styles would blend so well together, and they both seem to have the respect and reverence for the country greats that came before them, so it would be a natural pairing.
Of course, “Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man” was the title track from Loretta and Conway’s collaborative 1973 album of the same name, and was written by Becki Bluefield and Jim Owen. It was also Loretta and Conway’s third #1 on the country charts as a duo.
It has remained a timeless classic over the decades, and Lainey and CoJo are the real deal, so I can only hope this duet really comes to fruition one day.
Turn it up…
