New music from Justin Moore – with more (no pun intended) on the way soon.
I’ve said time and time again that I firmly believe that Justin is one of the most underrated and overlooked artists in country music, especially considering just how stacked his catalog is with hit after hit.
So it’s always a good day when Justin decides to release new music – especially when he teams up with another one of those underrated voices.
Justin dropped his latest single “The Worst” today – and for the song, he called in a little help from his friend and upcoming tourmate, Randy Houser.
The song captures yet another step in Justin’s growth not just as an artist, but as a now-40 year old father of four. And it finds him questioning whether having the newest and best of everything is really better, while reflecting on the lessons that he learned from “the worst.”
“I learned from the worst
Push mower how to make a little cash
The worst butt whoopin’ that’ll teach a boy fast
That you better be happy with what you have
Even if all you have is the worst
Little house at the end of the road
Thought I was doin’ better now I don’t know
Maybe havin’ the best ain’t how life’s supposed to work
‘Cause I learned from the worst”
The song speaks to simpler times, when kids weren’t growing up with “iPads, iPhones, and bikes that got more gears than a Peterbilt truck,” while expressing appreciation for the lessons learned from being around in a time when it wasn’t about having the best of everything.
Seems like a good reminder for us all.
But in addition to the song, Justin also announced his next album, This Is My Dirt, will be dropping on October 11.
We’ve already gotten three songs from the album so far, including the title track, along with his critique on modern country music with “Put A Boot In It.” And based on what we’ve seen so far, it seems like this new album is going to be a more reflective and heartfelt one from Justin.
And we’ve seen it from him in the past with songs like “We Didn’t Have Much” and even “With A Woman You Love,” with his music largely mirroring his growth as a husband and a father. And it’s that growth that I appreciate from an artist, one whose music can serve as a snapshot of their lives as opposed to trying to chase radio trends for their next big hit.
Featuring collaborations with not only Randy Houser but also Dierks Bentley and Blake Shelton, the album is also the first of his career that Justin’s recorded with his touring band as opposed to studio musicians, which no doubt makes it all the more special.
I can’t wait to hear what he’s got in store for this one. But in the meantime, Justin will be hitting the road with Randy Houser for their co-headlining Country Round Here Tonight tour, which kicks off in September.
Seems like it’s going to be a busy fall for Justin – but that’s good news for all of us.
