Jack Black is responding to the backlash.
Over the past couple of days, there have been way too many examples of people who just couldn’t help themselves but to make disgusting comments about the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. Too many people let their politics get in the way of their humanity and ended up making comments online that have real-world consequences.
And some just shouted them out on stage into a microphone.
During a Tenacious D show in Sydney, Australia on Sunday, lead singer Jack Black took a moment to celebrate the birthday of bandmate Kyle Gass. And after singing “Happy Birthday” to Gass, Black asked him to make a wish:
“Don’t miss Trump next time.”

And social media was quick to call them out, with one Australian politician even calling for the band to be immediately be removed from the country:

Black and Tenacious D were scheduled to perform tonight in Newcastle, but it was announced that show was cancelled. And in a new statement, Black has announced that the rest of their tour would be put on hold too, saying he doesn’t feel that it’s appropriate to continue:
“I was blindsided by what was said at the show on Sunday. I would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form.
After much reflection, I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative plans are on hold. I am grateful to the fans for their support and understanding.”
According to their website, the tour was set to run through July in Australia and New Zealand, before returning to the United States for a series of “Rock the Vote” tour shows in October.
Black also recently appeared at a fundraiser for President Joe Biden.
Jack Black went on stage with his band over the weekend and his bandmate said "don't miss Trump next time" to laughs from the audience.
A month ago, he was a featured speaker at Biden's fundraiser in Los Angeles.

Unfortunately just one of many examples we’ve seen the past few days of people making disgusting comments and then being forced to deal with the consequences.
